Hi there all, maybe you will find 'Syntablism' interesting. It is a modular scratch movement i'm trying to grow, together with its originator Luigi Sircut Comito.
It's possibilities are amazing. At superbooth 19 i did a performance, and heres a 1 minute solo i played:
Syntablism music releases, Patreon & Discord community: http://linktr.ee/kypski. Closely linked to the 'modbap' movement (ali the architect emo)
Enjoy & join the movement! :-) Best, Thomas.

Re: Patching DJ Scratch sounds?
it outputs 0+5 but you can scale it/offset it/amplify it with other modules do get what you need.
in my example, i was handling all that inside of the er301.
yall probably all know about this module by now but im really excited to build mine!!

Re: Patching DJ Scratch sounds?
The best example I’ve heard of scratching done using synthesis methods comes in at 1:49 on this track by Squarepusher:
[bbvideo] [/bbvideo]
After considering all the ways it can be done I just gave up trying to replicate is because it was so well done here... twenty years ago. That said, I can’t help but be interested in the crossfader modules that have been popping up.

jungle breakbeats, scratch setups, 303 modules/replicas.. fascinating these approaches never went away.
re scratching, is it about the rhythmic interplay with the beat that is appealing, or the sounds, or both? never really thought too much about it to be honest, it was always that cliche thing in the background the dj does when they want to show off. i sincerely mean no offense meant by that, and as evidence that theres lots of interest is doing that today, i must have missed something. it does look fun though.
Syntablism: i will check this out.

Scratching is serious fun although I haven’t really missed it all that much since I put it behind me 10 years ago. It takes serious dedication for it to be musically interesting IMO. These new tools definitely add something to the experience of working with eurorack though which can sometimes feel more like lab equipment than an instrument.

Re: Patching DJ Scratch sounds?
Pretty boring, normal synth patch to get relatively convincing scratch sounds (but unfortunately not isolated from the rest of the voice coming out of Plaits). The one thing you can't see is the un-synced sine wave going into the FM input. Other than that it's just tempo synced LFOs into Timbre and Morph.
This just materialized for me and it made me think of this thread

Sick! I think that patch could definitely bear more exploration.Back Down the Path wrote: ↑Sun Mar 07, 2021 9:45 pmPretty boring, normal synth patch to get relatively convincing scratch sounds (but unfortunately not isolated from the rest of the voice coming out of Plaits). Re: Patching DJ Scratch sounds?
Here’s a simple turntable reminiscent patch I stumbled on testing out my new Pittsburgh Modular Crow filter. It’s just Dixie 2+ TZFMing Rubicon 2 through the Crow high pass filter.
Re: Patching DJ Scratch sounds?
Backspin...
Shapeshifters Delay, temposynced by "Pitch 2" (2 being in LFO-mode) and then turn the "Ratio" CCW. Convincing backspin

Sounds awesome! Btw where you around back in the day on the old anticon/sole/retiform forums by any chance? I’ve been a fan of your stuff for a while and I seem to remember you from that world, which I was also involved in. At least that is how I discovered your work, before I got into modular.
Edit: I see you did something with Walter gross and k the I. That explains some connection there!!

Re: Patching DJ Scratch sounds?
Sure! I use an es-3 to send the pitch information on one midi channel and the gate information on a separate channel then tweak the filter like hell by hand. Generate 3 to a wavefolder, tanh(3), then the Pittsburgh crow with plenty of overdrive.
Super simple but a little arduous to program at first. I’d rather program it in the box though then try to arrange all those pitch bends in the rack. Considering programming the filter tweaking as well but holy hell.

Re: Patching DJ Scratch sounds?
i’d love to see Walker do a Make Noise video on morphagene doing scratch sounds
would be cool to make a reel of the vinyl sid wilson (slipknot) put out that he uses for their scratching
