Synthcube

Post by djd_oz » Fri Oct 02, 2020 8:27 am

Anyone heard from these guys lately?

I put in an order on the 20 Sept and it is still in the processing status ... sent them a couple of emails and no response so far.

I should be receiving a package from them today according to the tracking info. Order was placed late last weekend.

Synthcube's order processing is wildly inequitable and seemingly random.

You and I got the shaft, others like Starthief will chime in and say "well I got my order in 48 hours".

There's no rhyme or reason. All you can do now is hope for the best. :despair:

I made an order on the weekend, it was processed Monday, and is out for delivery today. The only issue I've had with them in three years was with a part that went out of stock while I was checking out.

Oh, no. It did finally arrive, just with no explanation as to why it took them, I think, 11 days to fulfill my order.

For the record, I think they mean well. It was just a total failure of customer service that I experienced. I've always gotten all of my Synthcube orders, and only had one issue with not receiving the correct parts (which SC did correct). But if you see my thread about it, people who placed orders days after mine got their orders fulfilled ahead of mine, with no explanation from Synthcube.

My order was delayed a day by USPS. Package was missing a kit I had ordered. Sent them an email about the error. We'll see how it goes! Hey, stuff happens sometimes. Particularly these days.

Ordered form them a lot over the years, e-mail has been really responsive in the past, hopefully everything is all good with them. Longest time to get shipping would be a week in dozens of orders. Thought they had gotten better about shipping times within the last six months, which is quite admirable considering current events.

As far as the order fulfillment timeline, people receiving things before people earlier in the queue, I recall them saying that certain items are in storage vs in shop. Also a caveat to my experience would be that I only order pcbs/panels, wondering if the long wait times are for kit preparation...

Synthcube has done alright by me. My only complaint is the product pages sometimes lack crucial information. For instance, they have an excellent selection of panel jacks, but you must scroll down 4 times (past the buy button) to see the note that jacks are sold without nuts.

Last week I bought a Weston VCO, advertised as “ PANEL + PCB POPULATED W/SMT ”. Yes, three smts were on the board, but they didn’t mention the $100 worth of through hole parts needed to finish the kit.

Product page clearly states: "The panel+pcb bundle comes with the panel, pcb set and matched Q and tempco RTD pre-installed"? Seems pretty clear to me. No mention of it being a full kit. As well a cursory glance at the build docs would have preemptively cleared up any misgivings about the parts (and associated costs) to complete the module.

I've ordered from Synthcube dozens of times over the years and not a single issue.

What build docs? All there is is a link to weston “for more info.” They make a note that there are no knobs, why not mention the other 100 parts needed? Most of their panel & pcb sets show just that, a panel and pcb. This one shows a built module. I’m not bummed about it, I put it down to growing pains as they greatly expand inventory.
I searched out a bom on weston’s site, which converted to a Mouser project with 95% accuracy.

I quite like Synthcube, they will get many more dollars from me. (And I promise to read the pages more carefully.)

I've been ordering from Synthcube since they opened and have never had a problem beyond something being listed as in stock when it wasn't one time. They emailed me to notify me of the mistake and sent a revised order out as soon as I decided that I didn't want to wait for the manufacturer to send them a restock.

Synthcube, smallbear, and Thonk are the best hobbyist-specific places going. I couldn't imagine running a business where I risked the wholesale market to provide rare/obsolete parts AND kitted up projects for people who weren't confident enough to navigate sites like Mouser and Digikey.

Tried calling them? There is a number on their contact page.

Looks like I’m still waiting on my kit to ship. They printed a shipping label but haven’t handed things over to usps yet.

My follow-up on this particular issue. I sent an email to their info address on Saturday. Followed up with an online contact us form on their website on Sunday. Monday I had a response that there was an SKU issue picking the order and the missing items will be shipped soon. Looking at the part numbers involved it seems like that is the case. I'm good as long as I get what I pay for and Synthcube has never let me down in that department. Running a synth DIY business has got to be a nightmare at best and issues related to packing out full kits can only compound issues. I wholeheartedly praise and support any company willing to undertake and support the synth DIY community. I'll continue to buy here.
