Jomox ModBase09 MKII

Post by uniquepersonno2 » Wed Oct 07, 2020 7:28 pm

This just showed up on Modulargrid. Very exciting, was never able to find one of the old version... I can't find any audio demos yet but I'm curious to see how it differs from the original.

This will be released about the same time as the Rabid Elephant Portal Drum, same HP too. Will be excited to compare the two

Thanks for sharing this.

I love my mBase 11, but this would be fun to play with. Hopefully it’s less than current prices for mod base mk1 on the used market lol

Nice! I've been waiting for a Modbase09 to come up on the second hand sites for a long while now. Interested to see how this is priced.

The used price went nuts because of eBay/Reverb silliness. Seemed to follow the typical pattern- one hopeful/deluded seller posts something slightly rare with a “buy it now” that’s waaay higher than the thing is actually worth. Then it sits there for a month with no buyers, but everyone sees it. Seller finally accepts something more reasonable as a “best offer”, but the damage has already been done. Somebody else who has one thinks that maybe it actually sold for the ridiculous price, and lists another. Which sits around for a month with no buyers...

So there have been at least 3 of them listed at just under $800 shipped in the last few months. There’s one on Reverb now for a little under $600 shipped from the Netherlands, so maybe the craze is starting to fizzle out as news of the mkII spreads.

Those are some steep prices. It's a nice kick (I like having it just to have my kick all ready to go every time) but there are so many other options...

I will definitely get this when it is available. Hope he does a brane MKII as well. That will probably kill my Alpha Base GAS.

I'm still on a search for my perfect kick module. What other options would you recommend?

Best option is to wait for the mkII. New price apparently varied from $429 to $469. It’s totally worth that. If the mkII stays in pretty much the same range, I’ll buy one.

I haven’t tried a ModBase 09, but the kick on Alpha Base is amazing. It thumps like nothing else, but the real trick is that it makes a single cohesive sound. The other fancy kicks I’ve tried usually have 3 layers, but fail to glue them together. So it sounds like 3 drums happening at once, not a single solid punch.

A bit of compression might help you make it sound like one.

thanks @nangu,

funny, i thought over years i should sell my Modbase mkI, and thought i had to sell it for 350.- or even lower,
guess i saw one locally ( swiss) here that was low and would not sell.
.......it was not worth it to me to sell that low, so i kept it.
i prefer for my uses the MI peaks with DMC, but the peaks feels more like "electro" ofcourse.
i find it just perfect.....and also perfect as a source sound to patch the kick further up with other modules.

This must be one of the worst designed panels of eurorack, and it doesnt seem like the mk2 will get any better.
