GINKOSYNTHESE - Battle

Post by Modulus » Wed Oct 14, 2020 9:25 am

Really looking forward to this module, felt it was worth bringing attention to.

From Ginko website:
Although it almost looks like a regular dj mixer it is not! I designed it with a different goal in mind. I am adoring the concept of patching in an eurorack setup on itself and the idea for the BATTLE is more based on the freedom of patching and creativity inside a rack than it is based on DJ-ing. So instead of a vinyl with drumloops I am more thinking about a patch on one side and a record for scratching on the other side... or a sampleslicer or wathever you imagine of course... that's the fun of modulars.
BATTLE

* 2 mono channel audio inputs
* CV controllable crossfader
* Voltage Controlled Amplifier (VCA)
* CV controllable BASS/TREBLE eq
* CV output from the crossfader
* Gate outputs detected from crossfader
* Adjustable crossfader curve
* FX loop on both channels

PHONO PREAMP

* goldplated RCA inputs
* PHONO/LINE select
* RIAA equalization
* GND connection
* MONO and STEREO output on modular level

Battle and Phono are definitely on my radar for the next DIY projects. I don't see much about GinkoSynthese lately, still a big fan of the TTLFOv2!
May the electrons always flow in your favor, and may the voltages remain under your control!

Okay, that looks pretty interesting. Anyone know how many HP we're talking here? I can't seem to find that information on the Ginkosynthese website.

Nice to see someone jump into this area. If you do buy one, make sure to get the better fader. Carbon suck for longevity reasons. And if you do buy one 'used' make sure it has the better fader as you don't know how much the previous person used it. Basic comparison link here:

Really awesome, but I really think the fact that it isn't stereo is a dealbreaker.

Reading this back it sounds more dismissive than I intended in its one sentence form. I’ve been thinking about crossfading mixers in for a while, so much so that I’ve been tinkering with a Teensy and a Daisy to actually build something, although my use case would be slightly different (thinking more of a crossfading looper).

But it would make a lot of sense in my opinion to be able to use this post mixer in your rack, especially when you’re combining it with external gear such as turntables. I think I got just so exited by it that the realization it is missing options that would be essential for my use makes me sad.
