Sent an e-mail to AH earlier today with a few questions. Got a reply now:

Thanks for the email. This is the only new module to be released so far.
There is a new oscillator in development for release later this year.

But no exact ETAs on that or anything else. The older modules listed on
our site are "New Old Stock". I will keep our site updated regarding modules and availability.

great news! some of the finest panels I've seen. Also seeing the CV Processor, Valve Multiplier, Quad Function & Trigger Source, 5-Step Voltage Source, Keyboard all at Analogue Haven.
Pretty sure all of that is ‘new-old’ stock.
You are correct. Shawn mentioned a possible new VCO on the horizon, and that some of the older modules may resurface.

Seems like it's a gradual revival but hot damn, that is great news. I've wistfully looked at that 'discontinued' Spectral Processor for a while, and eventually got a Fumana in its place. However, seeing as this has a different selection of filter bands it'll be massively interesting to compare the two, and it's not impossible that the Sputnik might sound better to me for some difficult-to-describe reason (like the Dual Osc vs other 259-likes).

Very interesting. But WHO are they, this time?
Josh Holley at Darkplace mfg. (Malekko)
nope. no. and no.

edit: i heard shawn bought sputnik from roman some years ago. but that could just be rumor.

fyi darkplace is distributing i think 5 brands including malekko.. if you check the current site. old links hidden from the main page don't count obviously. i think they do build for other manufacturers but not distribute.

i remember seeing panel mock ups for maybe a dozen modules that roman was imagining. no idea how many were even prototyped though. so, there could potentially be a handful of surprises some day. knowing how challenging it is to develop modules though... i would be surprised if it rained new sputnik modules soon. would be exciting though. i think roman had a knack for certain things and agree his complex oscillator design was brilliant sounding and a favorite. was sad to let mine go after the first wave of shit hit the fan.

so, whoever is building/manufacturing these probably has some gems in the line up.

Awesome. I hope new production runs of the old modules are in store. (and new development as well, of course!)
Agreed, but I'd also like to remember which Sputnik modules I was lusting over that I couldn't find.. ahem.

I highly recommend the Sputnik single oscillators. I’ve owned all the Sputnik modules and the only modules I still have are a pair of the singles oscillators. Based on my experience with vintage Buchla 258’s and the various clones, the Sputnik single oscillators are the most faithful reproduction of the 258 in eurorack (some might disagree). If you like that vintage 258 FM sound, grab a pair if you can find them.

You know, that might have been one of the modules- but by this point, I'm somewhat used to my pair of Intellijel Dixie 2+ and my Brenso. They give me far more graceful FM than I probably deserve. They're excellent modulators.

Curious why not the dual osc?

The dual Osc is based on the Buchla 259 and the 259 has a completely different character than the Buchla 258. My comment above isn’t meant to exclude the dual osc, it’s just focused on the unique qualities of the 258 and that the Sputnik single Osc really delivers as a 258-type oscillator.

J3RK DIY
Plan B model 15
Danny Sound Cali Osc

Probably some others. Unfortunately, as soon as you mentions others, the debate becomes each persons’ subjective opinion about which one sounds best, not which one is the most faithful to an original 258. They all sound great, but In terms of sine shape, wave shaper, FM response, etc. the Sputnik single Osc is definitely the most faithful to an original 258. This is largely due to the fact that the Sputnik single Osc is a direct euro adaption of the 258r Buchla format clone, which itself is a 1:1 clone of the original Buchla 258c schematic.

I wish I had the budget for new modules. I bought EF/Preamp just before I learned that Sputnik had stopped production. Now... It might be too late for me, but I still love their layout.

Nope, those mock-ups go back 5-6 years.

They never were available but now the Spectral Processor is, and based on a conversation that I had today, there will be others in the future. Apparently, another oscillator design is next.

Which is an interesting choice since they had the 258 and 259 covered.

I was looking forward to the Frequency Shifter and possibly adding some of the other existing modules that are harder to find now.

Currently have the Dual VCO, VCO (2 ea.) and the 5 Stage Programmer. So glad I do.
