Since you're using an actual kinetic electric motor, I would be worried (maybe just curious) about any noise that this would inject into the power network in a mid-to-large system. Especially with cheap switching PSUs, some digital modules can send all manner of noise into the system. Don't get me wrong, I have a lot of digital modules myself. Just something to consider as you're putting the finishing touches on this.

You have a great idea here. Best of luck!

Very interesting! Would be cool to have knob recording and motorized playback. I'm surprised that the power consumption is not more (if the one on MG is accurate).

Thanks! This is a good reminder for us to test further, So far no noise issues with motor pulse signals etc, but we have been testing with stronger supplies.

I agree, a live-recording mode should be great to add in. 180mA is the latest test, It has a good power management circuit and the motor is surprisingly efficient!

Wow, this looks very interesting! Will definitely be interested in seeing how they turn out. Hope there will be more demo videos to come.

This might be a very good interactive module for the visually handicapped / blind wigglers among us! Congratulations for the design and idea.

Edit: the DATA for your fingers ;)

Wonderful, this looks like a lot of fun, high wiggling potential.

I skimmed the thread, so it's possible I missed something- is there an option to dim the LEDs (presumably via PWM)? I quite like it dark and cosy around the modular and can find some LEDs a little blinding.

(I put some of those nice slider caps from Thonk on nu-veils to tame it, but this would be trickier to customise)

Hi Kattefjaaes,

I will include an option either in the software, or on one of the dip switches on the back of the module to dim them down.

This sounds really cool. The name is a bit odd though - why ‘Beet’ with two Es?

The module was pretty neat before DJ mode, now it is almost a must have.

I would request a follow-up module with a linear crossfader that behaves similarly!

I'm confused but I'm very engaged. Is this actually recording audio?

I was thinking it would be cool if it had gesture recordings but audio...that's a new level.

The video demo is recording audio, but at the moment it is low bitrate. This was not initially on my mind, but audio now seems like a natural ability that it should have and be able to do. DC coupled audio. I am going to spend my time optimizing and see what I can squeeze in regards to higher bitrates and also on-board persistent flash storage for long gestures and audio, in tandem with some needed design changes.

There are also some other changes I have decided to make in regards to usage. There are no longer "Variants" for each Mode. Instead the inputs/outputs of each mode can be augmented by clicking the corresponding button next to the input/output. This just cycles the behavior of the input/output. For example I have a BPM output on the DJ mode, this output can be switched from a gate output to a ramp, to a sin wave output.

This makes things a lot more flexible for each Mode, not that every input and output will have these augments, but if there is advanced functionality it should make engaging with it much easier.

Excellent. I think if it has gesture recording it'll be a beast with no master. I also like how the knob seems to continuously roll at the speed you spin it in DJ mode. If it has a constant voltage you could make some wild ramp LFOs. I'd imagine it would reset after reaching the maximum of the scale.

Thinking about your use of the dry erase marker in the demos (and the comment above about the use of this module for wigglers with visual impairment), I wonder about visual and tactile feedback about knob position and rotational velocity on the knob itself. Maybe a small scored notch or dimple on the rim?

You could like simply add a small bit of tape so to feel it. I think the aesthetic is better without anything on it.
