16 Pin Header Projects

Post by Studioalethea » Thu Feb 13, 2020 10:24 pm

Hey!

Who is using the 16 pin headers rather than the 10 pin (other than for projects that require the 5V rail?

Anyone making systems utilizing the Gate and CV pins? How are you using them? Any rad setups? Maybe some normalized CV or Gate connections that are broken with a switched jack?

The Doepfer modules typically come with 16 pin headers: VCO, VCF, ADSR, which read Gate and CV from the bus.
However these always have normalized jacks to feed Gate and/or CV in separately. Saves some cables in small setups.

On one of my more experimental DIY systems I use the CV bus for preset handeling data (the preset system is in each module, I only send data about preset number and interpolations between presets) and the GATE bus for midi data. So I basically use it like the buchla 200e databus.

I use 16pin headers because making 16-16 cables is less fiddly than making 16-10 cables...

I tend to use the 16pin connector for any module that needs a gate input, and/or where there's a "dedicated" 1V/Oct input (mainly VCOs). The doepfer bus signal goes to the break contact on panel jacks so can always by overridden.

For those modules with a 10 pin connector, I've got adaptor PCBs available that break out the CV and gate bus connections to connect to the switched contacts on input jacks.

the x0xhearts has 16p header on it, since its a full voice that accepts gate and CV, and runs off 5V.
