Wood type choices?

Post by EOTS » Tue Jun 18, 2019 8:16 am

Hi,

with the enclosure + wood cheeks variant:
Enclosure with Wood Cheeks: Metal 'boat' chassis finished in black powdercoat plus finished wood cheeks (preliminary pricing US$199- deposit $99 and balance of $100)- compatible with prior versions of the 1601 pcb/panel sets. Wood cheeks will be made from maple, walnut, cherry , poplar or another species, and finished
Let's say, I'd only want walnut, can this be specified in the order
or is the wood species chosen/assigned randomly?

Best regards,
Martin

we have not made that decision yet--- at the moment, we were thinking to make/offer only one species of wood, likely walnut or cherry. However, we are looking into making the sets available in walnut, cherry and polar... thoughts welcome

Poplar (I believe you meant) is not typically attractive enough for clear coating, and often has bands of green running through. However, it is strong, easy to work, very light in weight, and of comparatively low cost in US. If I was using it for cheeks, I would probably paint it solid colors or black.

yes- poplar-- so we've decided to offer cheeks in oil finished walnut and cherry, and stained poplar; the poplar will be a lower cost option but with the dark stain should be very handsome...

A completed one for sale on eBay in the U.K. if anyone is interested. This is not mine and I have no connection to the seller, nor can I recommend it or otherwise.

Hello, is there a finalised V5 BOM for the 1601?

Hoping to do all my ordering for this and the TTSH in one go!

Thanks

as an update, the current run of 1601 v5 pre-orders is almost ready to go.

- boats and wood cheeks are all here in the shop
- panels and pcbs are all here in the shop
- first batch of full kits is ready, with exception of the below:

While this version is the v5 1601 PCB from JMLS, we added the panel graphics and holes to allow for the addition of the Divider circuit, as a bonus. The Divider comes as a separate PCB (also here in the shop)

the holdup was arranging to get the latest BOM from JMLS, but we were able to locate a BOM, so we will be kitting those in the next few days, then shipping pre-orders against the queue.

it is a bit more complicated to build with the addition of the second pcb, but we think the extra divider capability is worth it!

Hey all,

Hope you are all healthy and fine

I am considering buying a prebuilt version 1 of pcb.

What are differences or disadvantages of v1 vs recent version ( I assume 6 )

Thanks in advance

Functionally, Rev 1 to Rev 5 are identical with only minor differences in PCB track layout and a move towards SMD for a few obsolete DIP ICs, and in Rev 5 a different make of slide switches was introduced.

The current offering, Rev 6c, offers adjustable gate, clock and position 1 out voltage trimmers so making it more eurorack friendly. Other than that they all do exactly the same thing.

I still have my two prototypes which are only very slightly different to Rev 1 (to correct a couple of component spacing issues I encountered).

Quick question: what panels are going to fit my Rev. 3 PCB? I just finished mine... today, and I'd tried this matte clear coat on the panel, which I will never ever try again - it cracked once it was on the surface, then taking it off took off the silkscreen. Open to any recommendations for where to find a replacement, too!

All the panels have identical dimensions. Latterly, Synthcube have added the clock divider option so it has the appropriate holes and text above the power switch, and this is as far as I know your only option for a replacement panel, unless someone has a spare panel somewhere. I can send you the drawing for getting a one-off made if you wish, but it could work out quite expensive. I hate to think how much a Front Panel Express one-off may be.

If the panel and black powder coating is ok you could get the screen print redone somewhere. Again the panel dxf drawing has all the text on a separate layer.
