Guess I need 3 sets then.

Hope he makes the heat sink mounting holes tinned/plated so you can solder the heat sinks in .

Turns out only two are really lost.
Replacement shipped today. Hopefully you'll get them in 8 to 12 days.

Ups.. you are not on my list of delivered boards... (but on the interest list for the next batch (w/ 3 PCBs) )
Maybe you are waiting for the LED resistor replacement boards? (At least I had mixed up both threads sometimes ...)

(Shipping started later on that one, so they are still "in time" today. )

I have built it up and tested the voltages but my negative rails is stuck at 13.59 and doesn't seem to want to move from there. Positive was able to be trimmed to 14.6.

I had a few build problems and had to change the headers , maybe a track is stuffed.

Anyone have any other ideas ? I need to have a rest from this for a day... :deadbanana:

I assume that the negative regulator does not get hot. (In normal operation it doesn't heat up noticeable: 0.6V * 70mA=42mW, that will heat it up by approximate 2 degrees Celsius. )

1. Check soldering (best with a magnifier glass, even it you are younger than 45) ).

2. Check resistor values. (240Ohms: red-yellow-black-black--brown. 2k4:red-yellow-black-brown--brown. Trimmer labelled "501", not 500 (that would be 50 Ohms and cause your symptoms))

3. Check input voltage. Should be -15V (+/- 0.2V)
If not OK: stop here, that needs to be addressed first.

4. If input is OK, than check the trimmer: can you adjust the voltage at all, or is it stuck at 13.59V independent of the trimmer setting?
If it is stuck: check the trimmer and its soldering.
(The cheaper trimmers have some reputation for failures. )
If voltage is stuck: stop here, that needs to fixed first

5. Unplug the regulator board from the TTSH board.
Unplug VCO3 and Voltage-Processor cables, so only the input power is left over. Voltage still too low?

I haven't built VCO3 or the Processor yet , I'm testing the Regulator completely free of the TTSH main board with nothing but the power cable plugged into it.

Is that correct ? Or should the Regulator be plugged into the TTSH Board while testing ?

At this point , I'll go. Back and continuity test the points and check Power.

Should my test points for the POS and NEG voltages be the GND pad on the PCB and the correct Trimmer lugs ?

Testing w/o load is no problem.
(In fact it makes things a little simpler, as nothing from downstream could fire back... )

Test points are marked TP1(0V or Ground), TP2 (-14.6V) and TP3(+14.6V)

Thanks nordcore !

Ack ! From those test points my readings are +15.21 , -15.21.

No response from Trimmers , (im using Bourns Trimmers 501/500R).

I'll do voltage , continuity tests and get back to you , now it's Friday and i must... :guinness:

15.21 is strange, that is more than what I would expect from the DC/DC supply at the input side.
Note: Maximum output voltage the regulators can do is 0.1 to 0.2V less than input voltage, exact value depending on the load current (from no load up to the 70mA used here).

Please check next what input voltage you have.
To be measured at the connector labeled "IN", @ left edge of the board.

do you use a DC/DC regulator with external wand wart or do you have a linear power supply ?

If you're responding to me, I am late to the party - took a few months off synthbuilding and am just getting back and trying to finish my TTSH.

As I understand it you're out of the regulator boards, so I am happy to wait for one from the next batch. If possible I'll take the LED fix as well, but that is less important to me.

Cheers!

It turns out i was using 240K resistors not 240R.

:picard:

All voltages perfect now.

Thanks nordcore !! :sb: :sb: :sb:

I could possibly have 3 to spare. I think I read these won't be needed for the next TTSH batch. If that's the case, I'll offer em up.

+1 here too

Post by Fubard » Thu Aug 28, 2014 10:43 pm

Long time reader excited to finally be getting involved, here.

I'm putting mine together and would like to add this to the build to prevent the problem. I only have one TTSH so I assume I only need one of these.

Add me to the next run! Thanks :)
