I just got them up and running and to be honest I’m not sure what I should trysetzer wrote:Yeah thats very awesome!
How do you use all these ? Polyphonically ?

Probably polyphonic, multiple sequencing, maybe some aleatoric self-generating patch experimentation, who knows - it’s been a lot of building so now it’s time to play. Wherever it leads me.

Plaits up and running!

Had to improvise with some 0201 passives I ordered by mistake and had to do a major reflow of the ics, but its all good now!

I've built loads of through hole modules but thought I'd do some SMD builds. As many people have said, it's not as hard as you expect it to be....give it a go. Using the Tinsy modules for the O_c and Temps modules I wanted to build a Mutables module and try the Jtag flashing, so sold my O_c that then paid for a ST-Link programmer and components for a pair of Peaks modules.
A nice cup of coffe and a Colin Benders modular mayhem on you tube and built one in an evening.

Loved it and it's a lot more simple than I thought. No I just need to sit down and look at the firmware and understand it.....May take longer than an evening.

In addition to building clouds today I built an Elements module but sadly it's not allowing my ST-link to connect, the search function doesn't work and I can't find the Mutable fail thread....anybody able to point me in the right direction?

Here is the unsuccessful thread:
viewtopic.php?t=143366&highlight=
I had trouble with my first elements connecting as well... For me it was mistaken identity from the slikscreen print around the Jtag header... I thought the print was showing me pin"1" or red stripe of cable.... It wasn't... All I had to do was try the ribbon cable(EDIT: JTAG CABLE! Not power cable) plugged in the other way around.. -180*-
You've probably tried that already as it most likely won't hurt anything if the jtag is put on incorrectly...
Anyway, Go hit up the unsuccessful thread... lots of readers over there... I do remember seeing similar stuff on elements over there....
As for a successful build, I had fun with this one...

Well what do you know, I've not been one for drag soldering MCUs but thought I'd give it a go on the duff Elements build as I read they're might not be enough solder on the contact of someone with similar issues.
It worked...haha.
so far 2 Per|former sequencers, 2 peaks/Apex modules, clouds, O_c, Ripple\Wavelets, Temps and now elements.

Re: Yarns
Perhaps the datasheet for the knob you are going to use will help you determine the shaft length?EvanLang wrote:I am curious what length encoder shaft everyone is using for Yarns? This is the last item for the mouser order and its hanging me up.
Could you give some links to the mouser pages please? I am curious to see them as I may end up building a yarns someday... Like what are the lengths to choose from?

Re: Yarns
I will be using the Rogan all black 2p d-shaft knob. Will definitely check the data sheets for that knob and see if I can come to a decision.JakoGreyshire wrote:Perhaps the datasheet for the knob you are going to use will help you determine the shaft length?EvanLang wrote:I am curious what length encoder shaft everyone is using for Yarns? here is the mouser link https://www.mouser.com/ALPS/Passive-Com ... gmZ1yvvtf9
There are a few more options if you don't go with Alps EC12E series, but I've been trying to stick as close to the Mutable Instruments BOM as possible.
yarns
So I'm leaning towards this encoder after looking at the knob data sheet and searching more option on mouser

Nevermind. It doesnt have a bushing. The search continues.EvanLang wrote:So I'm leaning towards this encoder after looking at the knob data sheet and searching more option on mouser

Just filled up my rack!
Just wanted to share my rack now that I just finished enough mutable builds to fill it up! Having a blast jamming with this
DIY mutable modules in there: Marbles, 2xKnit, Rings, Ripples, Elements and Smog.

Antumbra Smog (Clouds uClone).
One of a pair (the yellow one went on eBay, the other, with red/blue LEDs and blue jack lights, is a keeper).

Both worked first time!
I'd initially held off doing any MI clones because I was nervous about soldering the MCU, and flashing the firmware. I built a couple of PER|FORMER modules, which involved doing both, and it wasn't so bad, afterall (with some help from other forum members), so was emboldened to try the Smog builds, too.
Installed Parasites on the blue one.

Oh I forgot about this thread. I've posted a few things in the unsuccessful builds thread. But now I've had some luck. Or skillz, you decide. These are from complete parts kits from synthcube, which seems to be what I needed to get these things going. I have a ton of nice mutable pcbs here, but just never manage to take the next step in getting going on them. So I had some time between some larger things, so whipped these out.
