I hope this is the right place for a question, but I can't seem to figure out 'Tap' mode on my RE-303. I've got my pattern entered and playing, and am in 'Pattern Write' and normal mode.

My understanding(based on TB-303 videos) is that I should be able to hit RUN/STOP, and while the pattern is running, hit PATTERN CLEAR, which should start a metronome and allow me to re-enter timing info via the TAP button.

I've done these things, but no metronome plays. Actually, when I hit the PATTERN CLEAR button while a sequence is running, the A# LED lights up, but nothing else happens.

Everything else works fine, so I'm assuming I'm misunderstanding. The user guide shows a section listed as
'Classic 303 Tap Time Mode', but it just has a line stating that the TAP button can be used to tap in time information.

Thanks in advance for taking a look!

RE-303 CPU Availability

Post by Synthsense » Tue Nov 19, 2019 6:23 am

Hi Muffwigglers

Does anyone know when the RE-303 CPU from Sonic Potions will be available again? It's been several months that is not available in their website, neither Dinsyncs

Late November, based on my exchange with Paul (Dinsync).
It will be called Pixie, their own rendition closer to the original TB-303 design than the Sonic Potions version.

The Sonic Potions CPU should also be available again soon according to Julian's wife. Delays were caused by their pick and place guy.

I will be also going the Pixie route now. The Sonic Potions RE-303 CPU get's absolutely no more support by Julian.

Feels silly to be looking for help so early in the build, but could someone help me locate JP39 on the RE-303 Main PCB? I've scoured for over an hour and I can't find it anywhere, especially not near R38 or R40... :bang:

Vertical, between JP17-24 and IC9.

Btw, definitely suggest joining either/both the RE-303 site forum or the RE-303 Facebook group. For whatever reason the project never picked up steam here on Muff.

It was not announced here..
If you don’t like the original wobbling Potentiometer.
You can install alpha Pots:

Also possible to use this metallic brace to stabilize pots from Krumptronics.

I have a RE-303 in my build queue, waiting on the that awesome case from Kumptronics.

However, I actually have both the DIYSynths extra PCB for Alphas and the Ruggedized Potentiometer Set from Michigan Synthworks. I think the rugged pots are better. They feature a very long threaded bushing and the kit also includes a thick piece of cut acylic with holes that lock the entire set of pots down via those bushings.

Extremely stable.

However, take this with a grain of salt. I haven't installed any of this yet, I'm still waiting on more parts.

The alignment fixture is designed to line everything up temporarily while you solder them in, not for permanent use. Its a bit of a 2 edged sword, better pots have less wobble but that will also open you up to alignment issues where the pot cap can rub on the inside of the hole in the faceplate. The tool should help with that so they are all centered as close as possible to the PCB centers. This isnt a real issue with the metal cases since they are thin and it would have be way off for it to hit but for anyone fitting to a 606 or 3D printed case, its a big deal and you have to take extra care that they are perfectly centered. I think the production pots were chosen to have a bit of wobble to make up for off center pots
