I am interested. Is there a way to use the sine shaper on vco2? or does that not make sense?

I don't quite follow you. VCO2 already has a sine shaper.

You mentioned the one on the board is not as good as the TH one. So I was thinking, we could have the board one, and also the TH one. Overkill?

Refer to the diagram in the OP. There are two channels of shapers. I suppose you could connect one of them to VCO2. Bringing it's sine output to the existing sine out panel jack in VCO2 would be a challenge.

There were two aspects that attracted me to the TH sine shaper. As mentioned above, you cannot trim all the overtones out of the VCO2 sine. You can get it acceptably close by ear, but you will never be pleased with how it looks on the scope. Another motivation was avoiding EOL parts in the BOM. The TTSH sine shaper makes use of a dual JFET that is out of production. I wanted to have a shared Mouser cart with everything.

If you have a usable sine coming from VCO2, you already bought that dual JFET.

I just got my slider pots from Mouser and am waiting for a few missing components to show up, but other than that I am nearing completion of my TTSH. Very excited to get it fired up!

I've been following this thread and been wondering where to add all the new switches and jacks.

So, along with all the other mods that I'm planning, I quickly made this drawing of the new mods:

Image

My intention is to use the same slide switches as the original TTSH and place the new controls where it makes most sense (ie. not placing toggle switches far from the actual section that is being modified. Not trying to blame anyone here!)

Also, I'm hoping that someone might come up with a mod for switching between the two filters! :-)

I am not too happy about the range switches for the ADSR / AR being placed near the right speaker. I wish there was more space closer to the ADSR/AR modules.

What do you think? How are you all going to add these new controls?

.. oohhh! I almost forgot! I have planned to make my own variant of the sync mod. Instead of only having two oscillators sync'ed, I thought "why not all three?". So, I plan to add a sync option for each of the three oscillators with three possible sync sources; none, osc A or osc B.

What could possibly go wrong? (apart from making nasty scratches on the frontpanel)

Hmmm... that picture came out in a very low resolution.

Trying to attach my original .jpg drawing with more details.

Second round of prototypes expect in the mail today.

Zensac: the location of the shaper outputs vco1 and vco3 is what I had in mind. Wait for the documentation before committing to the sub layout. You may want to have fewer jacks and switches. How do you intend to fit slide switches between the panel and pcb? If there is a switch you have in mind please share the part number. Pretty sure the stock TTSH slide switches will not fit.

Thanks Fuzzbass! I wont commit to anything yet! I have been looking at substitute switches to the switchcraft models, but not found any suitable yet. I have a few outstanding orders from various chinese vendors, Tayda and a local shop, to see if I can find a good match with less height. Unfortunately its often very difficult to see the actual switch measurements (and function) on the webshops. I will report back if I find a good match.

Looking forward to see your final work!

Ok so more good news:
I have successfully tested the shaper on a V3 TTSH using the on board PSU (Muratas, etc) and driven from a Triad Magnetics WSU120-1500 switch mode AC-DC adapter. This AC-DC adapter is in my view a minimally acceptable brick (feels more like a Lego brick!).

Under nominal load (i.e. speaker faders min), the +12V output of the AC-DC adapter was .88A, and with my shaper connected to the TTSH power rails and making waves, this increased to .97A.

I will be doing some stress testing later today - pushing the loudspeakers, but I'm feeling confident about the ability of the stock TTSH power system to support the Shaper.
