Based on PCB photo just shared, and since you're doing a PCB re-spin.
Ryk, might want to move the RefDes from under the installed components? Not going to be much use in a future inspection-repair if they can't be seen.
Good point, especially the switch in the screen grab.
Unfortunately the other board is much more cramped, and there is no room for info
apart from on the component.
This is why I have put a map of components in the BOM documentation.

Ha ha.

That's great !
Verry funny.

Although technically, I did think the reprise of the M185 kit was more a 'return of the jedi'

Hello,

I’m having some trouble calibrating the module.
On ch1 I get a range of about 2.4 to 5V, the closest I can get to 1V (with the max stages switch set to 1) is 1.7V. Ch2 is always at 4.8V.
I’ve checked the placement and orientation of all components as well as all the joints, but I couldn’t find the error. :despair:
Any tips on where to look next or, if possible, a schematic would be much appreciated. :help:

Hello

Oh dear.
Sorry to hear about the problems with the callibration.

Does the green stage LED move when you change the Max Stages switch ?

Please double check the poly capacitors [ C12,C15 ] care the correct values 1nF [ there are two types that look identical ].
Can you check the CH1 CV voltage at the output of IC7 PIN 7 [ this is the opamp output of CV1 before the portamento circuit ]

Also might be worth some kind of technical check [ ? DMM resistor check ] of R34 R28 which should be 120K
These resistors feed the op-amp [IC7] CV outputs.
The reason I mention this is that their colour codes are identical to the 13k resistor if read backwards. [ as unfortunately the tolerance band is brown ]

Also check the power supply on IC7. It should have +12v on pin 8, and -12v on pin 4 .

Please message me a high-res photo of the PCB top and bottom, so I can try and help out.

Cheers

Hey guys,
I ran into problems right after switching on my power supply:
no matter which button I press the two leftmost LEDs are red ... I'm not quite sure if that means
I'm in firmware update mode or is there something really wrong ...
I checked the values of the parts twice, haven't found any shorts, measured voltages of the ICs, but all that seems to be ok ...
Any help would be much appreciated!

Hello

It does sound like your seq is booting up in Firmware Update mode [ indicated by the 2 LHS red LEDs ]
This happems when the Reset [ RED ] buttom is pressed during power up.

The first thing I would check is the orientation of the Reset button [ PBS4 ].
Make sure the flat edge is orientated with the flat edge on the PCB drawing.
[ if it is 90deg rotated, this would cause a short to the Reset line, causing your problem ]

If the switch is fitted correctly, then I would suggest checking very carefully that there are no
shorts on the lines running from the swithces.
AND that the other switches are also fitted corectly [ with flat edge alined to flat edge on the PCB drawing ]

Let me know how you get on.

Cheers

Hi!

So one of my kits came with only one 100nf poly cap :(

Can i use any other cap of the same value that is non poly?

Cheers

so I found these:

One on the left is the original, the two on the right are my spares, i think it should be good to go?

Hi Ryk,
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly and wouldn't you know:
Instead of checking values, power supply lines, looking for shorts and wasting your time I should simply have taken
a much closer look: the "Right" button was soldered in rotated by 90 degrees ... :bang: :bang: :bang:
So I soldered it in correctly and everything is working like a charm now!

Hello

No, these caps have to be poly.

But it sounds like you have found it ?

Hi ryk, thanks for the reply.

-The green LED does move when I change the max stages switch.
- the poly capacitors and the 120k resistors are in the right place
-The power supply on the TL072 is good, on pin 7 the voltage is the same as on the output.

The issue with CH2 cv is resolved, turns out I accidentally measured the gate output instead of cv.
I’ll pm you some photos ASAP.

Hey ryk, super excited for this build! I ordered mine back on 5/5, any chance you know how long these are taking to get to the USA? Thanks!

Hello

Thanks for the order !
Unfortunately the shipping to US is super slow at the moment, quite
a few people still waiting for delivery.

Can you PM me your name/email and I can send you the tracking info.

Hello

Can you check R28 ?
It should be 120k, but if read back to front it looks the same as 13k, maybe they got mixed up.
If this is true then R16 might be wrong too [ R16 is the real 13k ]

This resistor feeds the PWM smoothing circuit for CH1 CV.
If this was a lower value such as 13k, this might explain why they voltages your are getting on
CV1 are too high.

If these resistors are ok, then can you try the calibration but checking the voltage of
IC7 PIN7 [ this is the where the is CV generated, before it is re-routed through the portamento circuit.

Hello,

I was wondering about the firmware update, since the manual says V1.44, and on my kit the IC is marked M185 V3.31, do I need to update it? Where can I find the sysex files?

Thanks!

Hello

The 1.44 is just a revision number, it does not relate to the firmware version.

I will be emailing a v3.32 firmware update later today,

I’ve seen a bit of discussion on future format PCBs/panels, would this include a version adaptable to 4U or Buchla?

Thanks.
