Wow- what a nice attention to detail in all steps of this project - it just looks fantastic and from what I've tested so far the interface is great too!
Congratulations with a super module RYK! I also second the suggestion of making the black jack nuts available separately, would compliment alot of my other black modules nicely.
Hello

Thanks for the comments !

I’ll think about the nuts, but probably Befaco ones are cheaper.

But yours are nicer! And you -will?- have M7 pot nuts to go with them.

You'll probably make as much from matched pot and jack nuts as from SEQs once word gets out.

I guess if a note off for the previous long note would be sent after note on for the current note, that would work.
I assume you are using a MIDI synth in mono mode.
I'll put it on the list of things for next firmware update.

PS let me know if your interested in testing the reset firmware out.
That would be amazing!

Would be happy to help with testing the new firmware too!

Got mine up and running in an evening! The build documentation is really nice.

Question for ryk if one might be so cheeky and ask. Where do you source the black pot and jack nuts? I'd love to buy a ton of them.

Hello

If anyone still interested I can sell the black Hex nuts and black slotted Jack nuts on the rykmodular webshop.

These are new zinc-plated ones, with a slightly shiny finish compared to original kit ones.

Ryk, The Black nuts didn't show up for me at your big commerce site? Only products seen were two M185 listings.

78M05 wasn't in my kit, or I dropped it and it went into the void. Either way, I want to make sure I get the right replacement! Anyone know the part number?

Just received my kit in the mail today -- quick shipping! I ordered on Friday last week and got it today in the US (so only one week turnaround). About to jump into the build...

Thanks for buying the kit,

Please solder carefully, and check all the pins are soldered neatly, especially the 256 switch pins !!

Just finished mine, it's an amazing kit! I almost got it right, but... while soldering the 5x2 power headers, one of the pins moved, and I killed the +5V pad. Is it ok to just leave it alone, or is it used? It's been destroyed entirely, exposing the copper connecting it with the other +5 +12V pad.

It's a shame, I have this problem with the pins every time. Likely because the iron is too hot.

So I tried, and it worked, and I love the thing! Should I bother fixing the power?

The joints here kinda sketchy, and the pins are sideways, but it works.

Hi! Just a quick question, I have two kits, one built one waiting, I noticed that I have a lot of long 3mm screws supplied, 4 in each kit, they are way to long to fit in my case (maybe 12mm?). Do these have a purpose or are they actually the mounting screws?

They will have a purpose. Haven't built my kit yet. Probably to mount the pcb to the panel.

Two kits !!
So greedy ;)

The long screws are for screwing the M185 into
your rack.

But yes, perhaps they could be a bit shorter.

Glad it is working ok.

The power header does look a little ‘dodgy’
Most importantly is that it doesn’t short between the
+ / - pins and GND.

Thanks, yea, I’ve checked for shorts before plugging in.

It was all good, until it wasn't. After an hour of playing, the sequencer stopped reacting to the stage switch, being stuck on stage 1.

I reworked some of the joints on both boards, and it's back to life, but strangely the switch now reacts to pressure. Well, it behaves differently each time I plug it in.

Could it be a problem with the switch? But I blame my soldering skills first of course.

Hello.

As this and the push button switches are made of plastic, you have to be fairly quick with the solder iron, otherwise
it could damage some of the mechanism.
Did you solder the pins for a long time ?

PM me your details and I can see if we can send you a new switch.
But taking them out is pretty hardcore, involving disassembling the switch, before pulling out each internal pin one by one from the inside.
Not for the faint hearted . . .

Yeah okay, I shouldn't have pushed my luck with two builds. First one was A-Ok, and then I build the next one, running into all sorts of weirdness (but hopefully from a common source).

So I assembelled it and plugged it in, went into HW calibration mode and ran through all the switches, worked fine, except I noticed that I did not get a response from Pot #7, restarted it and confirmed it when it was in running mode. The pot does send CV if I check the pins with a multimeter.

So I looked through the soldering, all looked well, plugged it in again, just to make sure I didn't make some dumb mistake. Now all modular hell broke loose, step-encoder doesn't work and all over the behavior is strange, and in HW-test-mode I get some weirdness.

Picture is worth a 1000 words so instead of writing a million of them here is 40 seconds of video, I'm booting it in HW-test-mode, and trying out the switches for step one. Switches seems to work (also does in running mode), but I get a lot of "noise" as you can see, so somewhere I've made a mistake and I hope this is tied to the fact the encoder isn't working properly.

Things I've checked:
Proper 5v from both voltage regulators (smd one reads 5.06v, 5.00v from transistor-lookalike). All ICs are aligned properly.
With a grain of salt I'd say the resistors and diodes are correct, I've rechecked them, but there's still a possibility I missed something.
All solder joints are soldered and they look alright (by my standards)..
I didn't linger with the iron on the switches, in and out quickly.

Any direction is much appriciated!
