Nope, I think we're all waiting for the BOM and schematics

The schematics is from 2013 and not updated :

Just got my digital board prototype from Seeedstudio today.
It’s got spi in for a set of dac’s and ioexpanders to digitally control all voice card parameters. It also has inputs for 2x gate/cv, Fine tune, noise, pw, and the other parameters coming from the main board.
The idea is to build a crowbx-pander, or basically an xpander with obx voice cards. Each digital host card takes two voice cards so that by controlling four of these one can have an eight voice with four way multitimbral or four layers, or whatnot.
I haven’t finished my first voice card yet, so I can’t test it yet, but I am giving up waiting for the 2.4 bom so I just submitted a mouser order and have a tayda order waiting for the next discount code and then we shall see if the damn thing works.
I can see I did mess up the silk screen, must have forgotten to turn on some layer for component values, but that’s easily fixed.
I’ll keep you guys posted - once it works I’ll post the plans.

Here’s the card:

Hi Muffs

Did somebody finished their Crowbx project, with the new revisions?

In some Days, I will start testing my 8 voice, but I am not sure to if I should wait before I got schematics or just cross my fingers and put fire on .

I'd never try to build with no documentation before, but I've been looking at Oldcrow site, almost everyday for about 4 Months and tryed to E-mail and PM him for no results, so I just gave up to get the schematics

Please post Pics, details etc of your Crowbx

All the best, Nick

If shopping at the internet, was based on hope- nobody would use the internet for that.
That said, I made a thread here at muff back in May and I was told to relax and not claim my money back, because he was a very reputable guy etc
Maybe I was just lucky, I dont know.

Hope you get what you paid for

Best,Nick

I ordered mine in March - that's more than 6 months now so no paypal refund option.

I'd be surprised if it's not going to happen at some point (the engineering work is done after all), but it's not hard to communicate so there's no real excuse for not doing so. No-one is so busy that they can't provide occasional updates to a bunch of people who have entrusted them with $400.

I've pinged him a message on Facebook too - as yet no response.

No , there is no excuses... Damn it, hope you will come in contact with him

I got this message from him 16/6 :
Hi folks,

This is a quick update to let you know an extra board I am including
with each order has arrived. My day job has put me a few
months behind schedule on the programmable-preset portion of the 8-voice
design, so I am including a front panel bare board
that can manually operate the system at no extra charge. This will
permit use of the crowbx without having to wait on the
programmable patch manager boards. Shipping for the backplane and voice
boards plus added host board will be completed
by 22-June-2018.

Regards,

Scott Rider

Yeh I also received this email but no follow up to my reply.

Personally I'd rather wait for the finished set of boards that I've paid for - not much point having a PCB skeleton in the studio. Sigh...

Are there any updates on this magical project?

Is there any engineering work that we could crowdsource as a group?

Still waiting on a BOM, over a year since purchase date.

Has anyone actually started on these boards, or are they just collecting dust like mine are?

My 8 voice backplane is dusty too.
This means nothing to me... Oh, Vienna!

I have 4 boards populated plus the two main boards for a 4 board system. Those are V2.4, so I'm in with the rest unable to debug.

Tried all boards, but not sound coming out of neither. I've had contact with Scott a few weeks back and he mentioned he had a crash in his CAD software and will try to dig material.

well I still haven't received the boards I ordered a year ago, so count yourself lucky you have boards.

the irony is that if I had the v2.4 boards I could probably help build a bom using my v2 cards...

Here's one of my cards as reference and feedback. Debugging with our schematics is tough...

do you have the 'original' v2 / v2.1 schematics?

Old ones are here: http://www.cs80.com/crowbx/schempdf/

I really, really hope this project will continue and the preset board will be released someday. The synth itself sounds magical!

I could send some high res pics of one of my v2 voice cards if that would help?

Not sure what it would tell you that the you can't deduce from the v2 bom and schematics tho really. I vaguely remember there were a few mistakes on those early boards, plus the missing diodes in the filter, but I'd imagine these were fixed in later revisions

If someone would have empty boards scanned both sides (pics), that might be handy for figuring out the changes between the old version and the new.

Perhaps ask on the original build thread too - there must be some unbuilt cards out there...

Well, I actually have 2 old board crowbx's, so I have no other interest on this besides if that programmer-preset user interface someday arrives.
