Yeah agreed, really appreciate these soundcloud demos. Nice balance of showing how they sound in a "realistic" context :hihi:

Also curious if the dual lpg is a new design of if you've just got 2 old ones :mrgreen:

It's a new module from NLC. It's a dual version of the LPG with the tasty LDR/LED sandwich. Expect to hear more about it soon when Andrew gets back from Hague.

I don't have any completed module pics but here's the panel. (Note the "Filter/Gate" holes are for switches).

NLC might be the thing to finally pull me into euro. Are there any recommended systems?

Do you mean a stand-alone voice, like this one?

Thanks, nigel. That one is definitely on my radar. I'm trying to wrap my head around some of the modules I'm less familiar with which are of course the ones I'm most drawn to. The logic and modulation stuff seem really interesting. I just have no clue how to patch a lot of this stuff. I'd like to have an entirely gold/white NLC setup. Maybe I'll start out with a standard voice based around a couple Kareishuu VCO's and then slowly branch out into the unknown stuff.

will there actually be black panels again in the future? I only have 2 NLC builds with different panels at the moment. But I plan to build many more, preferably in only one colour. I've also heard about a NLC spring reverb, and am really curious about that :)

Are 1/8W 0805 resistors from Tayda ok for these or should I be getting 1/4W from elsewhere? Thanks!

I am thinking of buying some NLC modules to start my first Eurorack system.

I have been researching about Eurorack for a few months and I have some experience is soldering, both thru hole and SMD stuff. I have built some guitar pedals and I really love DIY stuff.

My idea is to create a DIY modular system capable of creating chaotic sounds made of drones, screams and creaking that can be both uncontrollable and, to some extent, controllable.

I am planning to buy a Power DIY PCB from Frequency Central, some NLC modules and a few other modules to realize my idea.
From NCL I am thinking about following modules: Triple Sloth (12HP) - Primal Hyperchaos - Brain Custard - Noiro-ze - Segue.
Then I will add LFOs module to control other modules, a buffer to duplicate LFOs and other signals, a VCA mixer, a stereo output and maybe another noise source.

For the moment, I came up with following patching idea:
  • Triple slot --> Brain Custard --> Noiro-ze
    Buffered LFOs --> Segue / Noiro-ze / Primal Hyperchaos
    Noiro-ze and spare outputs of Triple slot and Brain Custard --> VCA mixer controlled by Primal Hyperchaos
    VCA Mixer --> Segue controlled by LFOs
    Segue --> Stereo Output
Does this make any sense? Is this worth doing?
I think I am probably making some rookie mistakes and I will be very glad if someone will be kind to guide me with his expertise.

Hi,

If you want to go with a "uncontrollable but also controllable" setup I will go with your modules (be careful, Brain Custard in audio version is really noisy and violent) and with :

- Statues (1 to 8 multiplexer with thru and hold. Can generate signals synchronized with inputs, very nice)
- Giant Bono (at first, on the paper, I think is too violent, to unpredictable, but when I try it, I find it really nice, and more musical and controllable what I think)
-Let's Splosh! (blend inputs in a lot of outputs, but always related)...

By the way, it's difficult because NLC have a plenty of modules to generate chaos, but always good chaos.

I just finished my first, the NullA2. Tons of fun in a small space. I have some of Andrew's more esoteric modules in my backlog and they are coming up now. Some of them are so strange one might now know if they are working correctly. The Sly Grogan makes something like a woggle envelope.

If you're just starting out step 1 would be getting some simple oscillator and a filter / vca along with some modulations, just to have some fun results. NLC can all be used as modulation sources, like e.g. jerk driving 2 vcas for stereo etc etc. If you start out with only sources you will only have fun looking at a scope (or leds). btw good decision to go for nlc.

Does the resonance affect the LPG while in LPG mode, as opposed to just when in filter mode a la the DJ Thomas White LPG?

resonance is switched out in gate mode, feel free to mod the circuit as you like.

I thought in gate mode this was just a VCA? In which case, "resonance" should do nothing to the signal except change the overall gain. Resonance only works in a filter (or phase shifter) because the phase of the output signal changes at different frequencies, so feeding the signal back into the input will cause different boost or cancellation effects at different frequencies.

Well “low pass gate” implies that there is a mode that is a combined filter and VCA. Like the “combo” mode on a Buchla 292. And adding resonance in combo mode sounds really nice, but a lot of those modules don’t do it for some reason.

Hey all - recently made a Kareishuu that sounds wonderful, except I've noticed the PW/PMW controls don't seem to have much of an effect on the sound at all. Is this normal/ any idea where I could start looking on the board for an issue with my build?
