Any suggestion on how it could be made permanent like to have the connection active without having to touch the metal part of the switch?
Would be interested to explore the sonic potential with this mode active constantly.
If it’s calibrated properly you can set the waveshape pot to 0 with the switch in middle position so the Oscillator cuts out. If you touch the switch, you should hear a mixture of your frequency (around 50Hz) and the oscillator’s internal frequency. If you increase the waveshape pot to about 20% the oscillator produces a kind of trapezoid shape but you can still touch the switch and hear a difference. If you increase waveshape pot to 50% or more you don’t really hear anything when touching the switch.

You can get similar results just using the waveshape cv input and another oscillator or you can just crocodile clip the output of another oscillator to the switch.

Just built one of these and getting some weird results when testing it. All the voltages listed to test in the build guide are correct, my component and IC orientation looks solid too.

My problem is that when I turn on the module I see only a flat line DC offset on my scope, no oscillation at any of the switch settings & the led on the button doesn't light up.

If I adjust the waveshape pot, it changes the DC offset, i can get the led to flash instantaneously when flicking the wave switch and that also appears to have an effect on the DC offset too.

Just wondering if anyone has any pointers before I start going thru and reflowing everything? I built this from the PCB/panel so ended up installing a trim on the sine sym which turns out to be advised against in the build guide. Could it be causing issues? Should I remove this trimmer?

Where did you get the CA3080 from?

There’s a lot of fakes going around so if you bought it from eBay or alibaba etc instead of an actual shop that accepts returns there’s a good chance it’s a fake.

The CA3080 is in the core of the oscillator and if it’s not working then the oscillator will not oscillate.

From Thonk which I'd trust to be legit.
But good point, I recently built a functional TZ osc so I can just take the 3080 from that to test.

*Edit* swapped 3080s with my TZ osc and seeing no discernible improvement. TZ works fine before and after so I assume the 3080 being dodgy can be ruled out..

Have you adjusted the sine shape trimmer? If that doesn’t get it working can you post some pictures of the pcbs?

yep adjusted the sine shape trimmer to no effect.

attached some photos. i removed the sine sym trimmer in case that was an issue. as stated previously ive swapped the ca3080 chip out from my functioning tzfm osc and swapped the tl074cn just in case. no material improvements from either. all the inputs leds seem to respond appropriately btw.

Derp. Dunno why i didn't notice the first 10 times i checked, but one of the 2904's was oriented the wrong way. Getting a triangle wave out now finally :D
