Metasonix is buying one of your eurorack kits!

You must be very proud.

I would still like two pcb's/panels and tube/socket sets, when you are ready.

Hi people, time for small update, had to scribe some PMs, wondering if i'll ever get used to it. I apologize in advance for my ungrammatical English :hmm:

I have contacted steel cutting company in neighboring city regarding panel pricing as I had some stuff there done related to my day job. Sent them files a few days earlier with no response, reached the place to pick up order, mentioned to the company boss about mail with cost estimate - guy nodded his head and disappeared, coming back with panels one hour later saying "yeah, that'll be $200, you'll settle somehow with your company"...

One-off action does not solve my panel supply issues, but at least I'll make 30 kits :cloud: Presently sending them to less doubtful print house and hope to receive them back next week.

Rather than being proud, I'm just excited at this moment :hihi: And curious what Eric will think about it. I hope for a brief discussion here about tube designs.

metasonix wrote:FYI Bard chose well for the tubes. These surplus Soviet types are also common-as-dirt and practically worthless in the USA and Europe. So the supply is essentially never-ending.
Yep. The tubes are common, but they vary in parameters a lot and don't even follow the Bell curve. I'm attaching matched tubes in every order irrespectively of kit variant. I need about 100 diodes to pick up matched pairs (well, quads, since there are two diodes in one envelope) for about 15 Vacuforms, and even after that every module have unique sonic stamp. Triodes are different beasts, they only fall into "gain just right" or "gain that makes it oscillate wildly" categories without anything in between. Fun :deadbanana:

metasonix wrote:6n3P = 2C51, 5670, 396A dual triode. Also some assorted variations, incl. the notorious 6386 remote-cutoff version which is so "hot", thanks to being used in the Fairchild 670 limiter, that JJ Electronic is still making a version of it. (albeit very expensive)

They could make decent double expo converter for tube VCO if they really don't cut off sharply! But 110EUR for single tube... Yikes

Has anyone who's received theirs already made some samples? Would love to hear more of this.

I don’t think he’s released any into the wild just yet.

It’s in my rack right now.
I might make a small demo tomorrow if I feel like it. No promises.

Vacuform - Vacuum tube diode SVF

Post by pedroflute » Thu Aug 15, 2019 4:21 pm

...Hey Jakub...

I got your modules yesterday & played them from my Lyricon Wind Driver (vintage, analog wind synth controller from the 70's)... Wow! WOW!!!, WOWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!

What sounds come out of those things!!! And mind you, I HAVE AN AMAZING SETUP [too long to list here]...Yet I say that because having beyond amazing sounding modules/systems [including MOOG-like]... YOURS ARE A WORLD OF THEIR OWN!!

...So different, unique, incredibly big --no, HUGE!!!-- sounding, from super aggressive TO SUPER SUBTLE --IF NEEDED-- ...so many possibilities... JUST AMAZING MAN!!

...I still need to understand better the 2ble LPG... Would like to get more "Resonance" but cannot get it... maybe I'm doing something wrong? I will check again your Demo... How did you get those amazing sounds on your demo? How can you get so much resonance? [they have NO Resonance (???)] ...are you feeding back one into the other?

Anyhow, your vacuum tube VCF is BEYOND EPIC... (now I have to learn the 2ble LPGs)... ;-)

THANK YOU... & GOD BLESS YOU!!!

Can't wait to buy a kit. Or hear some more demos. In the meantime, I'm running two unison oscillators FM-feedbacked with each other into a Metasonix D-2000 for my tube filter fix.

Since I'm sure there are people dying to hear more of how this thing sounds, I got around to making this not-so-quick demo.
Entire signal path is tube modules, no external effects, blah blah blah.
http://soundcloud.com/everyonediesscrea ... uform-demo

0:00–0:15- Dry Signal; Metasonix R55 and R54 into an R53

0:15–0:31- Lowpass; resonance at about 10:30

0:31–0:47- Lowpass, plus Metasonix R56 Reverb into bandpass; Resonance at about 10:30

0:47–2:06- Manual Lowpass sweeps; resonance at 7:00 (Zero Resonance), 9:00, 10:30, 12:00, 1:30, 3:00, and 5:00 (Full Resonance/Self-Oscillation)

2:06–3:08- Manual Bandpass sweeps; resonance at 7:00 (Zero), 9:00, 12:00, 3:00, and 5:00 (Full)

3:08–4:19- Manual Highpass sweeps; resonance at 7:00 (Zero), 9:00, 12:00, 3:00, and 5:00 (Full)

4:19–end- Manually sweeping filter with all inputs in use. LP is R53 in self-oscillation, BP is R54, and HP is R55
Pardon my jittery hand during the sweeps; I tried to keep it as steady as possible.

Of course there's much more that can be explored here; this demo doesn't even touch things like overdriving it, using the resonance CV In, the V/Oct In, or using audio-rate modulation for controlling the cutoff. I just wanted to give a good taste of the basic sound to those who are curious.
Hope y'all enjoy! :tu:

awesome, sounds properly gnarly(probably Metasonix stuff contributes to that quite a bit too).

Yeah, much of the gnarliness is probably the R53. The filter itself is quite well-behaved for the most part. I went with the signal path I did because I wanted to have some very rich harmonics to filter.
