And for sure, you need the experience from Enigma or David to build a 2500 inspired synth, we use not only standard components in our devices that means it’s not an good idea to jump on the last train.
That means, it’s easier to explain how things work and easier for the support.
It’s not a build with a single mouser BOM and a buildguide with pictures.
Users can choose byself which resistor or capacitor types are used and share the experience to improve the project.
Users can go with standard resistors for 1 cent each or with 0.1% non conductive resistors for 1€/each, in THT and SMT.

To join the Alpha group, you need to buy either the DIY Enigma or DIY David.

You can't be an Alpha Builder just for the 2500,it does not work like that. You can't just get a spot to build the 2500. There are too many other folks who have joined and paid for Alpha or David.

So you indeed are forced to buy Enigma or David to be able to buy the 2500 Diy
Let me take a stab at this. LS is bringing out a bunch of new designs and processes, or more accurately, new iterations of old designs and processes. In order to improve the quality of the products, they have invited DIY builders into this phase of development. In exchange for their participation, the Alpha builders will have the opportunity to build Enigma, David and the 2500 at a discount cost. Presumably, after the Alpha phase is complete, LS won't need this anymore, and will progress to a full manufacturing model only.

I feel some sense of pride in Enigma, seeing as it has several features added to it that I personally developed to enhance the TTSH (gate boost, EG range selectors, making all VCOs equal, etc). Nonethless, I don't feel any sense of ownership; I didn't invent those circuit mods, I just adapted them to TTSH. If I had not, others would have. LS is not using circuits I drew, they are just carrying on with ideas that I and others have had.

:yay:

I joined Alpha, and I am hoping to eventually build a 2500 for myself. I don't feel I am being forced into anything, or restricted by it. I see it as a ground floor opportunity. I may decide later, to sell my Enigma and David but keep my 2500. The 2500 is a Mt. Everest level project. I don't mind climbing the foothills.

YMMV.

I agree with fuzzbass. It's not about "forced to buy" anything. It's about making the end product as good as it can get. If you have time and knowledge to share with the others in the team, then you get rewarded with the opportunity to build it for yourself for lower price, knowing that there could be obstacles to solve in the way. I think this kind of policy would benefit many other large builds, like say...Deckard's Dream.. REV1 people know what I'm talking about.

Is there any way to get in the Alpha group besides joining Facebook?
(Not being snarkey - it was a serious question. I went ahead and joined FB to PM Jim Soloman.)

Thank you LED-man, fuzzbass, JanneI.

JanneI - you have perfectly expressed what I have been trying to convey. You're hired. haha.

Besides Patrick hearing our filter and oscillators and seeing how well the oscillator tracked, no one else really has. Although we don't see it as a taking a chance buying Enigma or David because we believe in ourselves, we understand others probably do see it like that. We are rewarding people for believing in us early on and helping us make our synths the best they can be...that's all. You jump in on the ground floor with us, you get rewarded down the line as a thank you.

Now going forward - it would be appreciated sticking on topic here - news, questions, and ideas about Enigma & David.

Also - What happened to the sanctum of PM?? :hmm:

Yes! Facebook is not a requirement for working with us.

Just pm your email. That's the easiest way.

The outlines on the back are for Daughter boards which hold The 4027-2 and the 2-1 Waveshaper board.

All power goes to the daughter boards

Each section is isolated

Good to hear all of this is moving along!

I'm quite interested in the 2500 project (been looking for logarithmic RV6 pots FOREVER in my own attempts to clone a 2500), if only I wasn't a poor college student right now!

Best of luck guys!

Here is a pic of David panels next to each other so you can get an idea of size. I put all of the sub modules in them as well.

David's PSU PCB:

And here is a stack of modules that I'm pressing for Enigma Alpha guys. Got through 4012s, 2-1 waveshapers, 4020s.

Superstar David builder has ripped through all of the sub modules and has his Phase II package on its way so he can start getting some sound!

DAVID psu and VCOs arrived me.
It’s a massive powersupply board which can feed a David system and expansions like other VCFs and sequencers.

The pcb quality is the best what I got in last years, not cheap quality.
2 oz copper with 4 layers.

Huge PSU?

Post by EOTS » Mon Apr 15, 2019 6:05 pm

Wow man, the PSU really is enormous!

I expect that's only needed for David?

OK, good to hear Patrick!
I guess the David modular is intended to be much larger per cabinet.

Yes it’s bigger than 5U format.
The psu was designed to power the basic David system and many addional modules,
The idea behind David is to add more VCOs and all VCF types and addional modules like joystick modules, Sequencer and more.

Here is some progress on the PSU that one of our Alpha builders has made.

Ordering modules from Phase III of David and Enigma Phase II everyday. Both Phases will be done shortly which means all PCBs for standard units will be done!
