Look Mum No Computer - BIG BUTTON DIY build - Verified???

Post by rexxxx » Fri Jan 31, 2020 11:20 am

Hello all,

Has anybody here built this DIY strip board project successfully? I like the simple concept of the project... however, I have tried twice now ( on 2 separate builds) to get my project working with no luck... performance is erratic and random at best. I'm using the most recent A3 Mod code on the NANO however I tweaked the wiring for a different layout of the buttons and LEDs - that maybe my problem.

Before I go troubleshooting - Can someone verify a successful working build and let me know any troubleshooting tips - I would much appreciate it.

I have built four LMNC Safety Valves and they work fantastic and over 80 DIY modules - this one stumps me - its so simple though.

Cheers, RwBw.

Yes Successful build too .. Probably had a few issues, cant recall though. It is definetely a working project as i have sen a few builds on the ytube. Perhaps "fg" has an improved version.

fg - Thanks for the files, code and schematic - I will go over everything and test it out again with your code.

Cheers all, Rexxxx.

fg,

I'm a bit of a noob with the NANO and coding... What do I do with the "code_b_b.hex" file?

the hex file is just the compiled version of the ino file. (same code)

I use avrdude and a usbtiny to flash my arduino cards (because it's faster and you can modify the fuses)
but arduino id is ok too

fg,

I'm going to breadbox your debugged schematic.... About your circuit:

• Are you supplying the +12v directly from your Eurorack power rail to VIN?

• I plan on removing the RESET IN part leaving only the 5V and the RESET momentary button going to the NANO - So how come all the other 5 momentary buttons (BANK, CLEAR, FILL, DELETE and the BIG BUTTON) go to GROUND? - Shouldn't they all also sent 5V to the NANO (like on the original BB strip board)?

Any help is much appreciated..... Thanks, Rexxxx.

yes 12v directly to vin

i changed the code a little for that, just add input_pullup (to create virtual resistor directly inside nano)

for you plan, you can change
the line 159
pinMode(ResetButton,INPUT);
to
pinMode(ResetButton,INPUT_PULLUP);
and the line 372
if(ResetButtonState == HIGH)
to
if(ResetButtonState == LOW)
and connect reset button like the others (to ground)

good luck

fg,

SUCCESS! :hail: Thanks fg for the code and schematic - breadboard is running as you said. I've tested each channel individually.

Now to stripboard, wire-up and finally get the circuit onto the panel from my other first attempt. Not too sure about LMNC's version.

Cheers, Rexxxx. :yay:

fg,

Is there an adjustment to the code that will increase the voltage going to the BankLED on the lower blinking of the tempo?

The high brightness on the Brighter LED blinking is fine.. I need to get some more voltage going to the lower tempo blink to be able to see it.

My Big Button has the LED built into the arcade button and I have inserted a pot on the Big Button LED to adjust the brightness - brightening the lower blink would make it perfect.

Thanks, Rexxxx.

that's not in the code,
but may be just add a transistor to boost the power ?
