This looks great and midi sync would be awesome. Also joined the waiting list.

Nothing prepared, no previous instruments or patterns just jamming at the fly. Audio taken from the phone mic...

I have prepared the next revision. PCBs should be here in 3 weeks or less :goo:

I have uploaded the initial revision of the user manual and the schematics and the IBOM at my github

https://github.com/spherical-sound-society/OPERA_ROTAS

Currently the IBOM needs to be downloaded and opened in your browser to work its interactive thing. Anyone knows a way to host it in github directly and to be visible online from there? Or any quick and free site to host it?

I'm also intrigued by the sounds and mystery of this thing. Does the machine record the knob movements? Like parameter locks

Loving the sound of this. Will you eventually sell assembled units?

Sorry stupid question - is there 2 x OPL2 boards per Rotas?
Looks like 2 boards and a Teensy are attached to your main board.

REALLY looking forward to snagging one of these!

Does something similar but not exactly. I´ll be implementing the parameter locks most probably in any moment but is some big thing to update. It could take time, but yes, it should record at least the most significant ones

Yepp, that´s the idea. I guess in 10 days should be units ready if no coronadelays but there´s also some waiting list. BUt yes, I will try to speed production all the possible.

I would like to have builders maybe in USA, so I send there a chunk of kits and him builds and sell it there. If anyone interested PM. I cant solder all by myself

Good question. Currently the yamaha chips are coronadelaying, so maybe they arrive tomorrow or maybe they take 4 more weeks or more. It should have arrived like 4 weeks ago. Who knows. I hope it arrive quickly

Is 1 OPL2 board (22usd) and a blue pill (less than 2USD).

Thanks. I might take the plunge to DIY it myself if built units are in short supply. Can it be synced to external clocks?

Sure, I will need builders, theres quite a waiting list. The synching is in progress. As the new PCB revision arrives I´ll be testing and implementing that. Doing clockouts should be dead easy, but let´s check first that the hardware has no bugs!

That sold out quick! I joined the waitlist on tindiebot for a kit before and got a notification 40 minutes ago that they were back in stock only to find out now that they are sold out. Did they really all sell that quick?
Cheers

Looks like it yeah - to be fair I think there were only a couple of units in stock to begin with. I believe I got the only full kit.

It sold 9 units in a 15 min timeframe. There are still 5 PCBs left but I have run out of pots, so Im waiting for the pots to arrive. If there is anyone that has pots and want a full kit, just PM, there is 3 slots left.

In 2-3 weeks there will arrive 30-50 more units / full kits

Will the upcoming kits have the OPL2 chip or should I source that elsewhere?

According to the 1st post and description of the kits you need to source the OPL2 board (including chip) separately. There’s a link to the board.

Cheers

Yes, I know, just wanted to make sure that was the same for the coming kits before eventually ordering the OPL2

Ok some news. The actual OPERA ROTAS rev 0.8 is confirmed and working. The clock out works nicely. The midi in is in process, but looking good, will take some time still.

There were an error in the BOM, the transistor Q1 was listed as 2n3906 PNP. That was a mistake, it needs a NPN, (mostly any NPN) like the 2n3904.

There will arrive 3-4 new units hopefully during this week and plenty more in 3 weeks approx.

Edit: I will be sourcing the OPL2 boards too so you can save one shipping. Should be here in 5-10 days.

Thanks for the update! I look forward to ordering a full kit (without the opl2 board that I already sourced) in a couple of weeks. Cheers
