Re: PROGUE - Analog mono synth - AUDIO DEMO
Looking good!
That DAC looks tiny for sure. The 12 ch one I used for my TS0 module (Rhom BH2221) is the smallest IC on the board too. tiny little fucker.

Re: PROGUE - Analog mono synth - AUDIO DEMO
still down for pre-solderd version, good luck with the finishing of rev2!
Re: PROGUE - Analog mono synth - AUDIO DEMO
Quick update: Progue REV2 proto PCBs have been ordered and I'll report back in a couple of weeks when I'll get them and build&test!
Re: PROGUE - Analog mono synth - AUDIO DEMO
Hi again, just keeping you posted:
REV2 boards are here. The analog side is done & tested already and the development of the digital side has started. Due to the fact, that REV2 has a bunch of 0.5mm SMD's, it seems that we are probably going for pre-soldered SMD boards for this project. I know some of you guys would like to build it from bare PCBs, but this way the project will be suitable for more builders. I will share info when/how these will be available, hopefully soon!

Here's the main board with the THT components
Re: PROGUE - Analog mono synth - AUDIO DEMO
Looks great ! any idea of price ? would be in with no smd soldered : )
Re: PROGUE - Analog mono synth - AUDIO DEMO
Hi! Since I have multiple proto units fully built, I wanted to test them with a multi-channel midi2cv unit for polyphonic playing. There's no auto-tune, so it's a bit of a challenge to get them in tune, but I'm pretty happy with how they sound. Makes me wonder if there should be a PolyProgue someday, with a proper auto-tune...
You be the judge:

Re: PROGUE - Analog mono synth - AUDIO DEMO
oef.. nice job JanneI! looking forward to a mono (and future poly version!)
Re: PROGUE - Analog mono synth - AUDIO DEMO
Wow, the poly demo sounds great! But I'm happily looking forward to a mono as well!
Re: PROGUE - Analog mono synth - AUDIO DEMO
The poly demo sounded really good. I would be down for the v2 if bare boards will be available.
Re: PROGUE - Analog mono synth - AUDIO DEMO
I don't care anymore bare or presoldered. I'm in anyways.
Re: PROGUE - Analog mono synth - AUDIO DEMO
Interested in presoldered SMD.
(I bought 5U 606 PCB’s from JanneI previously and they are absolutely beautiful in quality and layout.)
Cheers

Case and PCB I am so in. So very in.THANK YOU EXCELLENT WORK!!

Re: PROGUE - Analog mono synth - AUDIO DEMO
Quick update: Digital section (=midi2cv) has been tested and the firmware is in development. One simple (&stupid) PCB mistake forces me to order proto PCBs once more, but while doing this I can add a couple of test points and other handy add-ons to the main PCB. I'll also test build this once again checking carefully the build docs for mistakes and hopefully, everything is set to go. I'm not rushing this because I want it to be fully documented and tested before release so that the builder doesn't need to look for 10+ mods and fixes to get it working. Stay tuned!

Ah yes, prototyping can be fun!
With SMT, it is indeed often just worth it to just re-order since the pick-n-place is doing all the work, rather than doing "surgery".

I promised myself no more synths.

Re: PROGUE - Analog mono synth - AUDIO DEMO
So what does the MW/AT switch do.
Does it control the amount of osc/vco mod from the internal LFO?

Re: PROGUE - Analog mono synth - AUDIO DEMO
Yes. There's an internal 2-channel midi to CV -converter: one channel for the 1V/oct osc pitch tracking and one for "LFO -> osc/vcf amount" which can be controlled via midi modwheel or aftertouch.Cablebasher wrote: ↑Tue Dec 08, 2020 10:00 amSo what does the MW/AT switch do.

I am happy with SMD. Go with it.

Re: PROGUE - Analog mono synth - AUDIO DEMO
Update: The initial release date: "hopefully by the end of the year" didn't happen due to my stupid PCB routing mistake. Also, we had to make slight adjustments to the PSU section (DCDC converter related), which is tested already. I also added some modulation options ('cos why not?) so that that extra PWM tri LFO can be routed to VCF or VCO via the midi amount section.
Sorry to keep you waiting, but due to its (heavily) SMD design, I don't want this to be released with x amount of mods needed to be 100% functioning, so I rather take the time to test it as much as possible. This project is my main priority ATM, so it should be finished in JAN/FEB.
JSISYNTH.COM site is slowly coming to life too, for BOM, build docs, testpoint measurements, etc, and I will be opening it when this last iteration of the PCB is tested.
Here's "comic relief" in a form of SMD prototyping: And here's "the extra warm sound -edition" with woodcheecks:
Happy New Year!

Looks amazing.
I’m happy to wait until it is ready.
No one likes cutting traces!
So many DIY synths. So little time....

Oh yeah that looks sweet with the wood ends!
And yeah, SMT board mods...ugh. No fun. Unless surgery is fun for you.
