Yes, your standard panel design looks absolutely fabulous!

I note that you’ve skipped the screw holes for the 4 stand offs that normally hold the main board. Are they not needed?

Cheers
Good point. Yes, I skipped the holes for the standoffs. I found that the pots and switches hold everything together just fine. But if you DO feel like you need standoffs, I marked the places on the back of the panel, so you can epoxy a set in place.

I'm making sure everything fits the panels properly before I send them out.

Here is the standard panel built up with knobs from Tayda:

If you haven't started the part of the build with the pots and switches, I recommend doing it when you have the panel. That way, you can ensure that the height of the pot shaft and bushing is perfect...because the Tayda knobs I chose are not very deep.
You can see here that most of my knobs are way too high...but the ones in the foreground are better...they have a nut and a washer on the bottom of the bushing. You could also overlay the panel to a fixed PCB, and shim it to the height you want...but that's a bit more work.

Also, getting it all right at the beginning will hold the pots and switches in place very nicely for your soldering :tu:

That looks awesome! I am still waiting for my Lyra-8 kit from SOMA. But I long to start this!

Dude...they look incredible. I'm thankful to be involved with this thread. People are missing out by not seeing this thing. Whats the dragon ball z thing when fajita and those cats morph into the higher level characters? Thats this.

Then that last post.
Hahhahahhahahhah. Forreal!

I could be interested, what are you charging for the standard panel? has it been designed for 12x12 hammond enclosure or are they the original 10x10? (need to factor in the cost of a custom built 10x10 box if so)

Standard panel: $40

It is NOT designed for a hammond case, or any other. It measures 266 x 266 mm, and I am in the process of getting a Fusion 360 file together with dimensions for a case.

I'm hoping to have an IO panel to go with the standard panel really soon.

Sorry to hear about your troubles that is a rough situation. Disaster recovery is no joke at the best of times. Well thanks for clarifying those points! I'll have a think and get back to you.

Expansion panels are here. They look fabulous!

Rather than try to gather money from everyone, I've set up a webstore to do that for me. I will have everything set up later today, and I will PM you each a link to the store, so you can pay that way (lots of options...paypal, venmo, cc, debit...)

Then, 10 days after I send the links, I will open the store publicly. Any unclaimed panels and stuff from the list of people will go to 1st come 1st served.
The gerbers and dxf files will be posted there as well, and as soon as I finish my build, a photo-heavy build guide. Also BOMs and links to parts.

@Flounderguts
Looking awesome! :hyper:

Early on I bugged you about the project and you mentioned you were working on a circuit that would work with the i/o panel and allow for inputting of gates for individual voices. Please tell me this is still a possibility :hail: :hail: :hail:

Yep, I have it breadboarded, but I don't have a working Lyra to test it. That shouldn't be a problem in the very near future. Hoping for gate in by early fall.

Yeeesssssss. Very cool.

I'm imagining with the right attack/decay envelope settings you could make a crude per voice volume control with a square wave lfo at the right rate (ie. envelope never reaches it's full peak or reduces to 0 while gates are plugging away). Sequencing this sounds fun. I'm gonna need some more OR combiners ;)

Madman!

Just to be sure - panel + expansion is 6U tall plus the 1U i/o?

Hard choices coming up... ;)

Yep, 7U total. It's YUUUUUGE! I posted a pic of it in the rack, no I/O.

Nice spotting! I was getting all the pots and switches in, and I was having trouble with one of the "fast" switches...I pulled out the reamer just in case...but I didn't need it. It was awfully tight, though.

It's tough, because lining up all the pots and switches perfectly will be impossible when it's built, so getting it right at the get go is important. However, I find it easier to work from the top down, so that I can get a spanner on the nut under the panel. However, as you get down, and the PCB is just a tweak out of the panel, it's impossible to move because I already tightened the pots and switches above!

It's amazing how heavy and stiff it's getting with all the stuff bolted in. No worries about deflection! That's one of the reasons I didn't design all the circuits into the back of the panel. Proving to be a good choice!

Definitely up for a standard panel. Thanks for doing this - just sent a PM.

Expansion B side is done.

It's challenging. I found that starting at the right side, and working my way out toward the edge made it easier. I *did* melt a PTSM terminal while I was doing Voice 2...I did the PTSM terminals first, but it might be easier to do them after the caps are in.

When you're buying stuff for your BOM, pay attention to cap sizes and legs. Axial caps would be the easiest (and Mouser has a great selection) but I used what I had on hand...which was a lot of poly film caps (yellow), electrolytic caps, and a few big box film caps. I ended up using a lot of mica caps on the delay and distortion, as well...they're pretty phat!
