Wavefonix Eurorack Modular System

Post by Chris Willocks » Mon Sep 14, 2020 9:11 am

Hi everyone,

I have finally finished a complete Eurorack modular system and would like to share it with you:

The main design focus in my modules is keeping them visually clean, uncluttered and ergonomic.

Currently, the range comprises the following, completed modules, which will all be available for sale very shortly as fully assembled modules:

- 3-Channel Audio Mixer
- 3-Channel Linear Mixer
- 6-Channel Audio Mixer
- 6-Channel Linear Mixer
- 3x3 Passive Multiple (PM)
- 4x4 Passive Multiple (PM)
- 4x4 Buffered Multiple (BM)
- 2144 Low-Pass Filter (LPF)
- 3310 Envelope Generator (EG)
- 3320 Low-Pass Filter (LPF)
- 3320 High-Pass Filter (HPF)
- 3340 VCO
- 1847 Wavetable VCDO
- 3340 LFO
- 3360 Linear VCA
- 3360 Dual Linear VCA
- 3360 Dual Exponential VCA
- 3360 Quad Linear VCA
- Precision Atteuverter (AV)
- Clock Divider (CD)
- Dual Linear Slew Limiter (SL)
- Dual Logarithmic Slew Limiter (SL)
- Dual Sample & Hold (S&H)
- Ring Modulator (RM)
- Noise Generator (NG)
- R2R DAC
- Linear Attenuator
- Logarithmic Attenuator

I also have more modules that are in the pipeline.

As well as assembled modules, I plan to sell them as PCB/panel combinations and maybe full DIY kits at some point in the near future.

Additionally, I will be offering the complete system, fully assembled in 6U, 84HP and 104HP options with the case and power etc.

Of course, I will also upload video and sound demos of the modules, as I realise how important this is to buyers.

More details to follow.

Thanks,
Chris

Thanks, it's taken a long time; about nine months or so of constant work everyday, with a lot of learning along the way.

Obviously, I couldn't have done it without the help of everyone on here, so I'm very grateful for that.

Good point. You're right about the gaps. Fortunately, this is only my own personal case.

But I have some better made cases without any gaps that I'm going to use when selling them.

Thanks,
Chris

it doesnt look like there are any switches. was this an intentional design chioce, or was there just not a need for one anywhere?

Sorry, are you referring to the module front panels or the case?

For the modules, I didn't see any requirement for any to be honest. They're quite expensive as well; especially when considering RoHS/REACH approved switches.

Interesting! I didn't notice that on my first look. I do love my buttons and switches, but this is kind of cool.

Some of the modules I'm working on will likely have switches, so I'll make sure to include them.

Thanks,
Chris

What "standard" are you using for VCO CV? 0-12v or -5+5 ?

The VCO exponential FM input corresponds to approximately 1V/octave when its respective attenuator is fully open. So a ±5V CV input would provide a FM range of about 10 octaves. Obviously higher CV inputs can be dialed down as necessary, using the attenuator.

Just to note, there is also a separate 1V/octave input on the module that has an input impedance with an accuracy of 0.1%.

Whilst on the VCO; a feature worth mentioning is that the soft and hard (positive and negative) sync inputs are comparator-based. So you can trigger them using an envelope or non-pulse type CV. Also, the soft sync level can be adjusted with a trimmer on the PCB.

I will give more details of each of the individual modules shortly.
