What is everyone planning to use for the VTL5C3 Vactrols? I've read that the decay on Xvive versions are not very good.

It seems that the decay might be too quick when using the Xvives, at least for the LPGs. Here's on video that I came across but it has been mentioned quite a bit:

I also had some very nice email correspondence with Dave Brown about vactrols in general and in the 208 and he seems to feel that in cards 10 and 11, along with matching the vactrols the decay time is important in the LPGs for 'the classic LPG sound'. That's not to say they won't work but something that builders should be aware of. It doesnt seem like the decay/turn off time is as critical in other parts of the circuit but matching and selecting is.

Yes there are the boms for an original 208,with minor upgrades,like the zener diodes in the card cause, it’s possible with the 208X pcb to build an original one,without the crappy card 12,(this original card 12 is available,but I’ve didn’t ordered it)
There a separate bom for the X parts .,in the zip file above.
For the vactrols ,we have planed to measure a max of vactec vactrols ,in static and dynamic situation,we will try to recreate the 0ld ones.as always ,we run after the time

Exactly,these are the X parts needed for each new functions ,mods.You have to add them,I will create the direct mouser basket asap.

These might also be good for the non-critical positions. They're 1/2 the price of the XVive's and might save builders some cash if you plan on buying extra's to match/select for various parts of the circuit. I plan on grabbing a bunch to test.

that's the datasheet, my googling revealed that apparently they're much faster to turn on than the VTL5C3
there's a thread on muff started by Danjel/intellijel about finding vactrols and I believe they opted for nsl's as well.

Use a VTL5C3/2 (x2) for the card 10 and 11,it’s a matched double VTL5C3 vactrol

For the tantalum,try to find some CTS brand NOS in your local store,at least for the C4 in card 11 ,a 47uF ,6,3V is fine (coupling inter stage capacitor,the audio signal pass thru),look like the silver ones.

I prefer NOS ,axial film and ceramic caps ,too

Be careful with the size ,old capacitor are bigger than modern.
The Vishay on the bom are fine ,too.
