Is it just a sine tone to tune to like on the minimoog?

At this point I think it’s just there for looks/historical accuracy and serves no functional purpose.

We have spent time about the autotune , it’s a comparator design ,and have created a schematic as a top notch X upgrade.
Don Buchla had already designed the connection for,(there are always on the 259X pcbs,)but its not finished,or perhaps was controlled by a Buchla 300 .
Finally,we have decided to offer a 100% vintage version for this little beast, (with a few pcb design upgrades like a ground plane,no flying wire with the volages ,another trimmer to help in the calibration,etc),perhaps one day we will offer a little autotune pcb to mod the 259X.

Looks really cool
it's a pity how more and more these devices are substitute by a tablet or touchscreens

Do you have any images of the completed boards (component sides) to get an idea of the build?

@cablebasher these boards are v.close to a 1:1 copy of the original Buchla schematics and PCB layout, making wise substitutions for some parts (that do not affect the sound). So if you want to see examples of a stuffed PCB, a quick Google of some sites should yield results, e.g. if you put 'Mark Verbos repair 259' into Google. BTW I'm also in the UK so if you want to compare notes etc. drop me a line. I'm about to dive into the build pretty soon

And a quick note to say my PCBs arrived earlier today, packed extremely well. My baords are V2, sporting a highly sleek matt black solder mask, and feature some v.nice touches, such as multiple board configurations for the frequency pots, enabling 9mm or larger 16mm pot options. They are amoung the nicest PCBs I've ever ordered

Dave brown has just put up some closeup images of a vintage 259 (or maybe vintage recreation) which will be very helpful.

It’s part of the MEMS project and is mentioned over in the Buchla forum section.

Look forward to building and posting my progress (or lack of) in this thread!
