"Continuum" Eurorack VC Phaser

Post by frequencycentral » Sun Jul 22, 2012 6:48 pm

Here's some soundclips of my latest Euro module, "Continuum", a voltage controlled phaser. It's an OTA phaser using 2 x LM13700, there are 4 swept stage sandwiched between two fixed stages. There is no internal LFO - to me a phaser is another filter and benefits from being treated as such rather than just being swept endlessly up and down, up and down...

First, let's phase some pink noise:

http://www.frequencycentral.co.uk/wp-co ... -Noise.mp3

So now, with a couple of VCOs as audio, let's send S/H into one CV input then an ADSR into the other, while slowly turning up the resonance:

http://www.frequencycentral.co.uk/wp-co ... SH-Env.mp3

Now, a single VCO as audio, with ADSR to one CV input of Continuum, and slowly introducing a -1oct sub osc to the other CV input:

Some Continuum ping action! Using a Roland ADSR to ping it, and a couple of tap tempo LFOs synced with a clock divider to modulate it. There's some serious bottom end going on there, better hook up your playback device to your nearfields...:

Finally, here's how it sounds phasing my RS-09:

Here's a couple of pics of my prototype:

...and here, 6 months later, is the build document: http://www.frequencycentral.co.uk/wp-co ... ld-Doc.pdf

I'm kinda very busy right now, but hope to make PCBs and panels available very soon.

I want it. :tu:

Beautiful! Just as I like phasers to sound, vintage, but there's controls that let the user control it like a phaser should in a modular! very good job (again).

I will PM after I get some sleep... :omg:

Can you explain the odd/even switch?

Thank you kind gentlemen!

Odd/Even refers to the number of stages in the resonance path, Odd is more pronounced, but Even has it's charms too. Example, first riff Odd, second riff Even:

You're gonna have to wait until mid August for this one - I'm off on holiday at the weekend -but when I'm back, it'll be Continuum, Waverider and HMVCO1c time!

I think it sounds quite lovely. Having the two CVs is really nice.

I want 2 PCBs with mounting holes (so I can 5U it) :haha:

My panel is 10HP. I think it might just be able to squeeze into an 8...but 10 for comfort.

I like the sound of it , i maybe want just a little more grit (a la Roland AP-7 Jet Phaser) but generally i think the sound is great.

The clip with the Roland Strings is beautiful , sooo lush.
