[PCBs] NeinOhNein KICK -- a 909 kick clone you can build!

Hey all, just located a source for the PCB but apparently the Nexperia
switching diode 1N4148,133
Manufacturer: Nexperia
Desc.: Diodes - General Purpose, Power, Switching Diode Switching 100V 0.2A 2-Pin ALF
RoHS: RoHS Compliant

is no longer available.... any ideas what could be used a replacement? Also I've been unable to find the 526-NTE4006B part anywhere


I just don't want to buy the PCB if there are parts that no longer exist making it impossible to build... any help would be appreciated!

4006 shift registers have been obsolete for a while but Hexinverter sell them at their store: http://store.hexinverter.net/index.php? ... duct_id=54

4006 is a CMOS, 18-Stage Static Shift Register. Original datasheet is here

I couldn't find one at Mouser, but I did find them at ABRA Electronics. They only ship to US and Canada though, hopefully that works for you.

You need to do a little hunting to find 4006's, I found some at a few little known online shops who are primarily targeting ham radio enthousiasts.
There's bound to be similar shops in belgium as well, maybe brick and mortar if you are near a bigger town. Those can be potential treasure troves for japanese transistors and obsolete IC's.

some more questions: i am a little bit lost with regards to the pots used for the kick, clap, snare and rim shot.
far exemple, build of materials for kick only specidies 4 pots while there should be 6. could someone detail any pot for all 4 modules, just to be sure?
other noob question : is an audio taper pot a logarytmic pot?

i built 2 and both of them just get a very warm 71. nothing else
i double checked all component values and placements .
power is good on all ic´s . i have no clue anymore
also the schematic on the page is barely readable .
does anyone have a schematic that is clear and good resolution ?
i would be extremely thankful for any help

Nearly the same...
I have very light signal output, but a constant sine wich barely reacts to pitch pot.
Tried different triggers (Beatstep pro,dfam,crave) with no luck.
I tried to read blurry schematics with no luck, but the TL071 seams to act weardly:
1--->-12V
2--->+12V
3--->0V
4--->-12V
5--->-12V
6--->-10,5V
7--->+12V
8--->0V

Edit: if I unplug & replug eurorack connector, then I have a trig and bassdrum is played.

My mistake, I forgot the 22k resistor next to the TL071...
All is working, except my Beatstep pro only trigs with the synth's gates.
The drum sequencer is not working for neinohnein...

Just finished up building the neinohnein kick, clap, and snare! Quite a project, and not easy to track down that CD4006 anymore. The sound great and offer a lot of controllability compared to the original or modern clones. Looking forward to pairing them with a proper trigger sequencer and a sampler for some hats and percussion! Full build video is up on youtube:

im extremely happy and reliefed to announce the kick works .
after i realized the 71 for amplifying the trigger got quite hot and did not do its job , i started inverstigating and found that a whole batch of 71´s i had here seems to be not working.
after i had tested those 71s under different conditions outside this circuit , it was clear - they are bad !
i had no 71s left to check.
then using a 72 and just solder 2 bridges to the ic holder to make it fit with the different pinout and viola :
the kick is pounding as it should.

fine tuning some stuff now and put the mods to work as well.

Hi, I hope this thread is still active.
I've build the NeinOhNein Kick, and it is working.
But the sound level is quite low compared to my other drum modules from Prok or FC.
And by low I mean 1/4 to 1/3 in soundlevel compared to the other modules.
I've also replaced the resistors specified earlier in this thread for 12v.
I already reflowed all the solderjoints and replaced the IC's.
It sounds great, but I really have to cranck up my amplifier to hear the kick.
Anybody else who build this module and has/had the same?
I gave the kick a separate input as a workaround...

hey ,
there is no need to replace any resistors . the kick works perfectly for both 12v and 15v .put back the resistors that are stated in the bom . mine is quite loud . never thought that its output is low.

I think all of the NeinOhNein and AteOhAte were essentially direct copies of original Roland circuits.
My builds are certainly quieter than most other modular drum levels, it's line level I think.
I put things through a Cascade mixer for added gain, and turn the other louder things down.

I had similar experience, in the end I got bored with constantly having to adjust all the other modules levels because of it and removed it from the primary rack. The other issue I had was the size of the PCB and trying to mount it in shallower cases. Also, I discovered the alt-FM kick on MI Peaks smashed it out of the ball park :-)

Haven't been able to do anything lately, due to family related matters...
Hoping to have some time later on...

As for the lower soundlevel, I've paired it with a (diy) wavefolder I had, with extra gain... makes an awesome kicksound now!
