Here we go, build doc - http://www.thonk.co.uk/Documents/MA/MA_ ... s_v1.0.pdf

I advise reading this in Adobe Reader, OSX Preview or similar, browser based PDF viewers can sometimes be unreliable.

Just finished building my 3 kits, and all have the output pot acting as an attenuverter, rather than just attenuator. Not what I was expecting - is that expected behaviour, or have I managed to make the same build error on all 3?

Ah yeah you just need to change the jumper to UP instead of BP, I should have mentioned that in the build docs.

mine are not doing what they should.
i switched the grounding around, now they both hum.
also, one of the mixers seems to cut off below a certain frequency range.
i checked the jumper is on UP, it is.
my soldering isn't usually a problem...
so, i don't get it.

cheers boss, they do look ok.
one now seems to be doing ok, the other, though, still has the cut-off issue...
i'll have a bit more of a poke about but might be round soon-ish :tu:

I've had weird frequency loss things where I've got a short somewhere in the past, not on the Mix... But then I don't have an experience of them going wrong :)

Ok, I finished the 2nd module (after AT-AT-AT last weekend). But this time only with partly luck. :waah:

Nothing hums and I didn't fry anything. But 1st channel refuses to work. I checked the solderings with my multimeter beep and everything seems fine: from the jacks over the pots and the resistor in the array to the chip. Everytime I got a beep. Now I'm lost :despair: Where can I check the further signal path on the PCB or is it better to attach a signal now for debugging?

Thanks for any advice!

EDIT: Request withdrawn! After another debug session and cleaning the PCB with a special brush, everything seems fine now (fingers crossed). I hope, this is not a cold solder joint.

Finally: :tu:

Good move, sounds like you probably just had a short caused by a solder bridge somewhere, they can be thinner than hair and have a tendency to camouflage themselves.

Next port of call would have been a wiring error, it doesn't matter how much build experience you have, wiring errors are very common.

With this module there is very little that happens before the channels are summed - so if there's ever a build issue that effects only one channel you need to look at the jack, pot, input resistor or wire. Anything past that will effect all 3 channels.

I will restock it at some point, but not within the next two months. Negativspace has PCBs and panels in stock though I think.

Synthcube definitely has PCB/panel combos!

I just ordered one a few weeks ago. :bacon:

If anyone's got a couple of PCBs, I'll be glad to buy them.

SmallBear is out of 50k audio taper pots...anyone have another US source or a tip on whether another value will work equally well?

With smallbear and banzai being the only stockists for these you have to cast your net further afield often .. In stock in Germany

http://www.banzaimusic.com/Alpha-9-PC-NUT-50k-log.html

The wait for restock on these can be months at a time

According to my last status-check, the 50K audio should be back in stock any day now. Waitin' on the boat...

Is there a BOM for this PCB? I've probably not looked hard enough and I know it's only a handful of parts.

Yes, I too would like a BOM/

In fact, has anyone got a link to a shopping cart with all the components in it?

Or indeed a link to the best online store (i am UK based) to buy the bits from.

This will be my first project not from a kit with all parts and I am a little weary of ordering the wrong bits.

Thanks muchly.

I kinda hate to take the lazy way out... but if you check the Thonk instruction .pdf there is a BOM on the second page. :hide:
