Andersounds wrote:Hi all,

I'm 90% complete on a build of the VC ADSR, boards look good, just a couple of simple questions, the trimpots, I have installed 20k instead of 22k, and I'm not sure the procedure for calibration? also the dip switch, I had one so I installed it what is the purpose?

Sorry if I missed any of this.

thanks!
20K are OK.

Trimpots in the middle trim offset, on the edge trim sustain offset. Trim first middle ones. If you have oscilloscope it's easy. Switch oscilloscope to DC and trim first envelope offset to 0V, then turn sustain to min and trim to 0V too.
If you don't have an oscilloscope, check with voltmeter. Trim middle trimpots to 0V out when gate is off. Then turn all pots to min, send long gate, trim edge trimpots to 0V out when gate is on.

There is possibility to take gates from bussboard. The DIP switch turns on-off gate from bussboard. This is dual switch, top one is working.
You can don't install it if don't use bussboard gates.

So Ive looked through the silent movie and Ive read all I can find....you can pick em alex!

Theres a lot of functions I have no idea of though - so the sustain section is always outputting a gate?
Can you explain the general design a little please...
look up!

Yes SGO produses gates when sustain time lasts. I showed it in the video.
Trigger starts envelope from beginning if gate is on.
CV ins control attack decay sustain and release. Full range is -10..+10V for ADR and 0...5V for sustain.
OUT+ and - are normal and inverted outs.
That is all.

I have boards and assembled first device. :sb: :sb: :sb:

The device is working perfect from first fireup! No problems at all!
All functions tested.

So I'm starting to take orders for kits. Next day shipping.
Will make a post with photos tomorrow.

Which would be the best value to substitute for the 22k Trimmers, 20k or 25k ?

Edit : Whoops, apologies, I didn't see the answer was two posts above :hihi:

Any. No matter really. Needed point is somewhere in the middle, around 10K.

Dual VC ADSR – Trimming.

We need to trim offsets – for output VCA and for sustain. The middle trimpot (100K) is for output VCA, the edge trimpot (22K) is for sustain.
Turn your oscilloscope in DC mode and trim visually.
OR more precise with a voltmeter.
Turn all knobs to min (full CCW).

1. Output VCA offset.
Short GATE IN to ground. Gate will be off (no LEDs light). Trim the middle trimpot to have 0V at the output.

Image

2. Sustain offset
Now remove a cable from GATE IN. The generator will stop in sustain stage (sustain LED lights). Trim the edge trimpot to have 0V

3. Repeat for second generator.

Now check. Feed some pretty long gate and measure output voltage. Must be 0V when gate is off (all LEDs off) and 0V when sustain stage lasts (3rd LED lights).

Now that is a sweet looking module
look up!

This looks great. Do you have any audio demos so that we can hear how it sounds? I'm especially interested in hearing how snappy it sounds -is it clean and hifi-sounding or does it have a "vintage" thump in the attack? etc...
Also, is there a mouser BOM?

thanks!!

I don't have assembled module on hands right now to record. Will do later.

There is a capacitor installed which makes 0.1 ms delay when gate is coming. It's to avoid clicks.

Mouser cart will be done during this week.
But the partslist has links to farnell.

PCB`s/panels are classy as always...

just finished mine - the board and panels arrived this afternoon - beautiful as always... as far as i can tell with my old scope, both envelopes function identically, which is much appreciated. well done alex, another winner from L-1!

So every time the adsr reaches the sustain stage a gate is outputted through the SG Out?
