DeltaLab Rack Units

Post by MindMachine » Sun Oct 27, 2019 1:54 am

So I added to my DeltaLab stack. Just for anyone who has questions or wants to see, or add some history, etc. Here is what is going on currently with me. I grew up with a D-4 and I really like these grainy racks. I prefer the Effectrons. So for fun... :

Ah, memories! Got that Delta Effectron Jr early 90's - $150 from Sam Ash in NYC. Hours of fun, "screaming into an echo box at one in the morning."

I've seen some of those up for sale sometimes, for not much cash. I like that they have no LCD screens; makes it fun to tweak them live. I love my MPX-500 and PCM-91 but you change the wrong parameter and the sound cuts off for a second while the unit recalculates something.

Is this a Dimension D type of thing? I don't know these units at all, but the buttons on the front look very Dimension D-y to me
Cases and side panels for all sorts of modular and other stuff :

Nope. Nothing like that. These buttons show delay times that range from flanging to doubling to echo to looping. The Roland units are different chorus type presets (or enhance) with no parameter control (while the DeltaLabs have various controls - usually modulation depth and speed, mix, etc.).

You can get some great chorus from the various DeltaLab units, but not so simply as subtle or 'secret recipe' as the Rolands as far as I have found.

They are great if they're not too noisy. Unique flavor that may or may not work. I grew up with a DL-4 (my uncles) so I wanted more once I had a few dollars to spend on rack units.

For 100.00 to 250.00 for a DeltaLab unit it is worth a try. There are many so check out the variations. The number on the face states the max delay time. Many ads are bogus and show longer delay times in their link.

I've been keeping an eye out for a nice Effectron II ADM 1024 especially because of the 'Control' input. Good to know you rate and enjoy these!

Hey cebec!

My 1024 recently croaked, but if I find one I'll pass it along. I have enough to hold me for now. I do want to replace it eventually. They are all great effects, even the shorter time domains. Real good flange and wacky effects if they have the modulation section.

They come and go.

re: Strome. This is by far my favorite release of yours. Greatest variation and depth. Is this all Serge?

Thank you so much! It's mostly Serge with significant contributions from Kyma. Many of the tracks on this release were not direct to stereo recordings -- they were mixed down to stereo from numerous layers and worked on over a long period of time.
