valvestate 8100 in 2020...

whats up wigglers...

i am trying to work out if i want to sell my Marshall Valvestate 8100 (100 W head):

Image

i have used it in the past with synths like NI Massive to churn out some awesome metal sounding synth work.

Doing the rounds on google though - i stumbled on a company called Frenzel that makes a tonne of different affordable point to point tube amps...
some are stereo....some have rotating dials that allow you to experiment with 5 tube types....some will even double as amps for line level (full frequency).

So many of these things are amazing for recording....But curious to know what others would do...(i have a mate that swears the 8110 is the best and most brutal distortion even conceived...and thats always stuck in the back of my head whenever i want to let go of it lol)

I had one that needed the power amp, and power filter section rebuilt. Did the work and sold it probably for a steal. Ordered double the parts and have thought about rebuilding one from scratch on occasion. Pretty good tones for a solid state.

I'd keep it at least as a power amp!

it's a regular head without a preamp input...how would using it as power amp work?

i dont play live either - friend gave it to me for free as it was busted - i spent a few $$ to get it fixed and was using it as an oversized distortion effect hehe.

Don't use the preamp - go directly in the return effects. That's what I do with Valvestate 8240

Interesting.. I never had any joy with the 8110s FX loop. But I'll have to try this!
