Finally, finally, we're there ! (well, almost... read on)

Pricing for the Model 416 Meta Expander has been set.

It is €1650 (euros).

Payable per bank transfer, or Paypal.
Paypal payment only in Euros - payments in other currencies will be returned.

A deposit of €800 (euros) is required to get on the pre-order list.
Attention: pre-ordering will start at the 2nd- or 3rd of January 2018 (I will let you know the exact date soon). Please, please do not email me with orders before that date, nor do transfer any money !

Once your deposit is received, and your order is confirmed, expect a delivery time of about 1.5 months (max), shifted along with a few days depending on where you're at in the list.

What's in the box :

- The Model 416 Meta Expander (duh) for BEMI Easel or rev2 clone.
Housed in a gorgeous, seamless custom-made boat, matte black powder-coated. (17x7x3")
Front is a scratch-free "natural aluminium" anodized panel (non-brushed), with dark blue in-pore printing.

- The Model 416 Edge Card, 100% compatible with BEMI programming cards.

- A 60-pin custom-made ribbon cable assembly, to connect the Expander to the Edge Card.

- A User Manual (which also explains the somewhat oblique art of vc-controlling the Easel's switches).

- The royalty fee for a Easel-ified version of Serge Tcherepnin's Universal Slope Generator.

- Free WW FedEx shipping !

Please note that possible customs duties and/or taxes may be added, depending on where you're located. I don't know how much this will be, if anything at all, and I have no control over it.

====

I've had several requests and questions about the possibility of having a "straight-down" IDC connector on the Expander (instead of the right-angled one, which comes out at the left side of the boat). This would most certainly aid in putting the Expander in an existing 19" rack or Buchla enclosure or similar. But this requires a rather difficult and complete re-design of the inner guts of the Expander... thusly sprouting forth a 2nd version of the Expander, *without* a boat.
I'm willing to consider this only when I receive enough [serious] requests, with a firm commitment to buy when released. "Enough" being at least 10 units... Development of a 416 straight-down Expander will certainly push back the delivery time of such a thing by at least two months.
Please email me (not PM!) in private if you're in for this: g u y @ g u y d 2 . c o m

Thank you all for sticking with me during these long two years, and happy holidays !

_Guy

Perfect timing for me

Post by needspeed » Mon Dec 25, 2017 11:20 pm

Waiting on JMLS 208 kit and was already looking at expansion.

What great timing and congratulations on your efforts and accomplishment.

I am going to post this over at FB, as there may be a few folks that are in on the 208 kit that will find this expander rather compelling.

I am in for sure.......Steve

I'm really bad at all things video. Sorry 'bout that.

More to follow soon...

In the mean time, still waiting for Paypal to resolve some matters so I can start the pre-ordering.

Happy NewYear !

Yes.

Like I said before, doing video is not my greatest forte.
But I'll do my best to whip up a few more over the next week.

I don't want to speak for Guy (gddfp) but as far as I understood there was a single manufacturing run based on pre-orders and no plans to make any more. If I am wrong about that then maybe Guy will correct me.

There is a 416 available for sale on Reverb for $2,000. Is it worth that much? There isn't a ton of info on the web about it.

If you looks at the Euro price, add shipping and import tax that sounds reasonable.

Though the core functionality & philosophy remains the same for the new version, there are some major differences,
as well as a few minor ones, which are listed below.

- The biggest change is that now the flat-cable assembly pops out from the bottom-left of the panel, instead of extruding
out from the left side of its boat. There is a recess in the front panel — aligned with the Easel’s Prog Interface — through
which the ribbon cable smoothly comes out towards the 416 Edge Card.
This has several advantages, the most important being the ability for the 416 Expander to be built in existing cabinets.
This also allows for a shorter & less meandering connection, which means lesser chance for possible interference or crosstalk.
Disadvantage, maybe: the Expander needs to sit directly above/behind the Easel, and aligned to the Prog Interface.
A picture explains it better - see attached photo.

- All circuitry has been redesigned from the ground up, to be as lean as possible in order to not overload the Easel’s power supply.

Changed from V1 :
- The Universal Slope Generator now has one CV input less (I needed the space, sorry).
- The separate Inverter module and Inverted ModOsc Out are gone.
- Pink Noise is now, well, truer pinky.
- Comparator A now has a tini-jax input (previously a minijack), and has an additional "5V Buchla gate” output.
- The Processor morphed into a somewhat simpler, but easier to use 3-ch Mixer.

New for V2:
- Voltage-controlled LFO, with either a Stepped Random, Smooth Random or Square output. Its output also feeds a separate
Comparator, generating either a steady clock pulse (when set to Square), or random pulses. The LFO has a Tap Tempo input,
which can also be used to synchronize its rate to other pulse-generating modules. LFO Rate can be voltage controlled.

- A simple ASD envelope generator. Attack & Decay (or Release) are manually controlled, whilst the Sustain duration is governed
by the Gate input width. Max AD time is about 10”.

- DC-coupled 3-channel Mixer. Input 1 is unity gain, Input 2 can have x1.3 gain, and Input 3 is bipolar and has a separate output.

- A simple but handy “passive OR-mixer” with two inputs and one output.

- A Manual Gate button with 10V gate output.
