A 208 on its own is already a great and versatile instrument.
I find that the 218 (or other controller) is just the icing on the cake.
Finest EMS gear service and Music Easel/208 goodies

I'm not a synths dealer and I'm not aware of an inexpensive Synthi secret market, please don't ask me if I know one for sale.
I don't offer support of any kind to people attempting to build clones of EMS equipment.

I agree.

As a matter of fact, it was the time I sent my 218 in for repair that I really got to "know" my 208. (As if I know the 208...)

I am of the opinion that an "Easel" is a combo of a 208/218 but that doesn't mean the 218 is a necessity. I actually have come to consider the idea that the 218 can actually get in the way when taking first steps with a 208. It can actually be a distraction when starting to learn the in's and out's of the 208. For me it was.

My recommendation to anyone starting off with a 208 would be to spend some solid time with the 208 on it's own.

as I eagerly await my new Easel Command this is heartening advice. My plan is to start using the unit totally alone for a while...then I'll probably try hooking up my Beatstep Pro. In fact if that plays nicely I'm quite interested in the USB Host port option for the Command to streamline that set-up.

I've looked at the 218, but apart from the touch control & the Preset voltages ( which do look super handy for live control ) I'm not sure yet whether it's something I'll end up getting or not.

It's worth mentioning you can save a single preset on the 222/223e - It's an incredible controller.

Sometimes I use a midi controller to sequence the 208c and find it to be quite satisfying and practical. It does not replace a 218. As far as I know the 218 was built for the easel and it integrates perfectly with the 208. (I may be wrong with that last statement, please correct me if wrong) Theres something about it that no other controller has offered me. I do admit that I'm a little biased and this is strictly my opinion but the 218 is the controller that turns a 208* into an easel.

As you mentioned, the preset pads are awesome but the connection I make when touching the 218 has not been reproducible with a midi controller. It changes my workflow and I'll end up going down a very different road than I would have with a keyboard. The tactile experience is totally different and this alone takes me down a certain path which I much prefer. What I'm trying to say, given the exact same circumstances I would end up with entirely different results using either controller. They offer completely different workflows. Both are enjoyable.

No new information there, but it’s always good to see signs of life.

I wonder what they can add to the 218e?

Auto calibration and arp clock sync would be two things I would find useful.

Thats a great idea, Arp clock sync via cv would be a great feature.

Has anyone mounted the Easel Command in a 200e Buchla case? Is it possible?

It can easily be removed and put in a 200e case, it's one of it's design features. You will be missing out on all the midi functionality.

What's needed to do that? The power connector is different, among other things. I don't use the midi functionality much so I wouldn't miss it.

Quick note for anyone that tried to get the Easel Command with USB host card to work with the Haken ContinuuMini. Continuum firmware 9.5 fixes the USB enumeration issue that prevented the Easel from seeing the ContinuuMini - it works fine with this update.

I think a more fully featured, latching arpeggiator would be nice. Or while I'm dreaming maybe it could take some cues from the Future Retro 512.

I would like to see a separate output for the portamento, like the original 218. I wouldn't complain about a Synthi AKS style sequencer, either.

I wasn't aware that you needed to log in to see the contents of this (mostly) open forum, not to mention the fact that Eric does have a separate account. :hmm:

In terms of market analysis, I would be very surprised if BUSA didn't make use of this gem.

No point in furthering this speculative argument..
