Serge Midi

Post by cyberdine » Sun Feb 23, 2020 9:23 pm

I'm wondering if there's an easy midi > Serge converter. Something pretty simple, all I want to do is sync an Elektron Digitakt to an R*S Serge Mantra panel. Does anyone have any simple suggestions?

Just get a Kenton midi to CV converter. It outputs CV via 3.5mm so you just need a format jumbler box.

same as the post above. kenton works like a charm with standard 1v/oct cv output and a reg 5v gate/pulse. format jumbler = 1/8 jack to banana jack format converter, connect the format jumbler box to the common ground of the serge PSU, and yr good to go.

I know in kenton as well as other things like 'cv.ocd' midi->cv interfaces you can select gate/clock division etc from the midi input, so if only syncing for the mantras sequencer i guess you only need the clock-> gate pulse.

I'd go for the muc 800 series. Really awesome spec and comes as a kit. It's overkill for what you want but serge with full midi would be amazing.

I don´t know if i go Kenton or Yarns for Serge?
i see Kenton more solid, but Yarns more multifunctional, the thing is i´m not sure i´m going to be using all the Yarns functions in a Serge enviorment.
Is there something special about Yarns that has to be considered for the Serge users?
Thanks in advance

I´ve seen pictures of DIY builds around . PCBs are available.

In case of Kenton, it can be used with adaptor cables or maybe converted to 4U.
