Hey guys

I recently brought a 261e and pots & dials are all loose.

Can someone please advise me how I can get them tighter ?

Despite how they feel, those are very high quality and meant to be loose. Don used those originally in 200e modules but people did complain and he eventually changed pots.

I heard that the pots were loose so that one could get finer control over the turns. Not sure if that's true, but I feel it.

I don't have a 261e but I have a Buchla Easel and an Easel clone. The pots and sliders in the Buchla seem to be extremely loose compared to the ones in the 208p.

When I first received the 208 clone I thought, "Wow way better quality". After extensive use I have to say I much prefer the wiggly pots and sliders. I guess it's a matter of preference but I feel like it's really got an "instrument" feel to it while playing. Hard to put words to it but to me it really feels natural, organic, real.

Hey Spezial, would you mind correcting the spelling to your thread "lose->loose" so that someone could find this thread in the feature?

hey guys,

The 261e came in this box.

Is this an old Buchla box ? as all the latest modules I have brought are not like this.

Not sure what you mean by "dials". Can verify that the 261e debuted with long shaft not at all stiff turning pots that weren't secured to the front panel like many other synths. This clearly upset some people used to pots screwed to the faceplate. They didn't bother me but I can understand how it worried or was unfamiliar feeling to some. About the box, that's BEMI the company that came after Don's B&A but they had access to the modules in-house, seeing you have a B&A faceplate it could very well be an old one that might have been reconditioned and sent back out. There was also an infamous couple days of selling off at a discount whatever B&A had around and working. Anyway I've not encountered other than feel-factor issues with the old pots and have not tried to return the module or replace the pots which I guess is possible but not super easy or quick due to the pcb is probably further from the panel than a panel mounted pot needs to be.
