Post by roman_f » Wed Jan 13, 2021 6:30 pm

Hey guys, it's been a while since i did something in this genre, but i have decided to end few projects which i wanted to make back in the days
i'm starting a preorder for a limited run of 288r - my approach on the Time Domain Processor, the digital version of it

FullSizeRender.jpg
FullSizeRender 2.jpg

- 24bit/196KHz sound quality (switchable to 12bit "vintage" mode)
- up to 40 seconds of looping buffer (switchable to original short loop timings)
- both timing and phase/mixing presets are set up by trimmers and dip-switches on a back of a module, no need to wire or change resistors
- preorder is $299, total price is $1099 shipped
- a usb-programmer for firmware updates will be included with each order
- source code will become public shortly after the release of a module
- shipping is scheduled for mid-march 2021
- this is one-time run and i'm not offering kits atm unfortunately
- couple more cool modules to be released later this year.

How about a version without the panel for those of us that bought one ?
I thought I would build a few modules to see if I liked it and guess what happened......

It's great to see more options coming for this module - I have the older 288v and I'd love to add a more modern version alongside it one day.

I am really tempted to start a DIY 200 system, this might just tip me over the edge but as asked above, does anyone have a video or guide on how the verbos or original version was supposed to work?

Yes I too would love to know what exactly this does besides being a delay. Not much info out there describing this in detail and there are a few parameters where I have no idea what they do.

So the write mode acts like a normal delay but recirc loops what is in the buffer at one of three cycle lengths, selected by the short/full three way switch. The time and pitch switch in theory toggles between a longer delay like setting and a much faster delay that you would think could be used as an oscillator waveform (think single cycle waveform), with pitch controlled by the CV in, though on mine the useable range of CV isn't much at all. Each of the sliders is a volume control for that delay tap, with the presets being different combinations of these. The switches below are invert phase and mute channel, the signal in is an FM input and the various bits on the left mean you can generate a gate to switch between write (delay) and loop what was last recorded in the buffer, which is how I use it the most.

I'm interested in how pitch mode responds in the new one as if it works and tracks well it would be a great osculator.

Interesting. Please what do you mean with "we". Sorry if it's obvious, it's not to me. Do you mean "you" or you mean "a company" (what company?) or "you and Roman" together?

Did you buy too many trimmers by accident? This is your evil plan to get rid of them all? :) :) :)

I guess the important question here is -- how does the noise floor sound on this one? I recall Verbos' 288 clone with no signal can be used as a noise source due to the aforementioned being absurdly high.

EDIT: I also remember Alessandro Cortini using that same noise to his benefit in Volume Massimo's "La Storia". To reach this level of usability you really have to mess up the circuit big time.

Yes Roman is she going to sound like a washing machine or closer to a multi-tap like the 277r?

I'm assuming given the 24/96 sound quality and vintage mode line in the OP it will be clean. I love the 288v though, so that will be staying for those tough to shift stains.

Thanks for the explanations tIB....seems like a very interesting module...only thing I wonder is how flexible the loop length setting is considering it goes up to 40 seconds of looping and there are only 3 positions to choose.

No probs. I've never thought of it as a looper as such, and on mine the loop length switch is usually on short and occasionally medium, though each position can be made shorter or longer with the time/pitch dial. I'm not sure what the maximum length time is on the verbos version though. For my uses it's a delay that you can trigger between always writing and looping what's in the buffer, with bonus clunky sound source and washing machine functionality. I really like it, despite the super high noise floor (and possibly even because of it!).

Fwiw on a modern version I'd hope the pitch/loop mode could be expanded on to make it a really cool oscillator/sound source - if it could track accurately over a few octaves (or the range of the pitch knob) it would really open it up as a sound source. If that's the case I'll consider adding a second...

So is feedback adjusted using the sliders?

The sliders are volume for each tap - for feedback you can patch back into the mixer, taking one tap or a mix of them.
