Photos of the EMS (Cornwall) Synthi A 2011
Hi all..thought this might be better in a new thread as the previous one was all about 'speculation' etc about when new EMS(Cornwall) Synthi A's and VCS3's would be shipping again.
Well the Synthi A's have started shipping. These are photos were kindly sent to me by someone who has been on the waiting list since 1998. He received it a few days ago..
You'll notice it still retains the Bulgin AC socket and there is no prestopatch socket. I think keeping the Bulgin socket is good idea on a Synthi A(S) as an IEC socket would look out of place to my eyes.. Pity the prestopatch connector wasn't kept though..
Anyway the buyer also had Robin add a bunch of mods before shipping it :-
Osc sync on Osc 2
Hi/lo frequency range on all 3 oscillators
Osc 3 stabilisation (this is done as standard for Osc 1 & 2)
VC shape on Osc 2 & 3
Patchable inverter
Switchable filter mode 18/24 dB
Switchable filter unslew
VC filter response
cheers
steve

well I sincerely hope nobody on the list has died..though I can see that some on the list might not share my sentiments ..daindain wrote:so i have to ask...did anyone on the list die? surely not everyone made it the whole 10 years!
But yes some people have left the list as you might expect after so long ..I dont know how many.
Approximately 40 Spartanite cases left for Synthi A's. These are all reservedalso do we know how many will be made? i thought he only had like 50 of the cases?
as I understand (the waiting list is longer than 40.. I know people at number 60+..this is a sort of reserve 'Spartanite Synthi A' list I guess..hoping that others above them may drop out. )
Anyway after all the Spartanite's are used up Robin is considering another commercial attache case to use instead. Whether this requires a redesign of the front panel remains to be seen. But its some ways off yet..
No such restrictions for the VCS3 of course.
Ultimately Robin must have limited stocks of the Sealectro patching matrix. These have been obsolete for many years. Ghielmetti in Switzerland still make such patching matrices (of extremely high quality).
But they are not the same size as the orginal Sealectro types and use different sized pins. Using these matrices may require modification of the Synthi A and Synthi VCS3 panels.

Re: list
he he thanks for the plug ! Its the SYNTHI 'HI-FLI' by the way not 'HI-FI' though as I mentioned in my previous post the re-designed case does make it look like a piece of vintage 70's HI-FI from the front ..theparegorickid wrote:Everyone looking at this thread should check out what digitana electronics is up to. There's an L-of difference between the two

I cant recall why EMS chose to call it the HI-FLI ( Hi-Flying ?) ..but it's a better name than 'Sound Freak' as it's aka.

His last email to me said he had 30 cabinets for the vcs3 made at that time. Obviously a wooden cabinet is not that hard to manufacture and could easily be reproduced. At that mailing he said after those 30, he would decide if he wanted to make more. That was a year ago.
Description mentions modifications,

I am not complaining, I find it beautiful except for the joystick and the attack button.. I am sure the new owner will not complain.Reese P. Dubin wrote:Only 15 posts in til the first "complaint"![]()

The attack button looks the same used on some of the last 'A's that were made. The power lamp and joystick are new/different. The labels for the mods look awful. I would peel those off after getting the functions memorized. It looks so shiny. The VCO Frequency pots are almost mirror finish looking.
Good for Robin Woods for sticking to it and making some very patient peoples dreams come true!!!!!
I wonder how many order list folks are like, 'oh shit... I need a few thousand euros now.'
I cannot wait to hear one of these things!!!!!!!!!!!!
