249e re-release rumors?

Post by xart » Fri Sep 14, 2012 3:49 pm

Has anyone talked to BEMI about this? What do you know? Do we have a date yet?

What is the driver behind this module? Wasn't this just a first stab/proto that the 250e improved upon?
Beatniks and Bongos/Bagels and Bongos/Buchlas and Bongos...

The 249e has 2-channels of 24-steps along with a % probability function, which the 250e lacks...

it's more like two 24 stage 250e's with some extra features that the 250e can't do. the 250e is more mature / less buggy though.

The 249e is also a little hard to program. Using it, to me, definitely felt more like programming than playing.

The 250e has a wider range on clock speed modulation, which is nice (although still not wide enough for my tastes)

I like the fact that the two sides can have independent timebases. I'd love that on a 250e.

wouldn't that need an additional array of LEDs in order to have an idea of what's going on?
(what I mean here is that isn't something doable just with a firmware update...)

Nope. When a person selects "CV 2" you can then receive visual feedback of the tempo. Due to the interface and processor speed, I think that there would be the needed constraint of having the 2nd tempo a division or multiplication of the selected Master Clock.

I found the pretty much one knob and buttons interface was the sort of thing you needed a plan to use. I mean it's not easy to just tweak stuff and get results. So while a pair of 250es takes up twice the room it also has a lot more knobs.

I'd probably buy one for original retail or a new one if one existed for a touch more due to rising prices but it didn't thrill me enough to pay collector's money. Actually the owner of the one I played seems to have cashed in.

Anyway I seem to have added some 249e fuel when I mentioned I saw one in the NAMM video about the reorganized company. What I heard back was that was part of Allesandro Cortini's system loaned for the show

Yes, it was definitely Alessandro's system. Is this what is causing the rumors?

Yes. Buchla is now in the hands of business people who need to earn back the investment they made...if the software is at V30 and the parts exists - I cannot see a reason why they would not do a "run" of at least 25. I bet they would sell out in 3 weeks....this is the 'story' I am hearing. . . :tu:

pardon me asking - but is a 251e and a 250e not a stronger combination?
i'd rather see BEMI make new exiting stuff for the systems! :-)

I forget the thread but I recall somewhere Pauts once said the number of people who say they will by an unreleased product vs the number of people who actually do is usually 25%.

Also, having 249 software at v30 is Buchla supporting their product so it can be used vs becoming a paper weight. Weather or not this means there could be a reissue is a guessing game.

v30 was created by Jon in order for the current users to be able to integrate their 249e in v30 systems....yay for Jon!
