contrived, labored, messy and unglued

Post by lisa » Mon Mar 23, 2020 3:31 pm

New track! Been working on this one for six months so it's just as contrived and labored as you'd expect. ;) BUT, it's also rather messy and unglued.

Main sound sources are Make Noise DPO (bass), Mutable Instruments Plaits (all of the "random" sounds), Korg Electribe 2 (drums) and Instruō Cš-L controlled by the Arturia MicroFreak (melody).

Yeah, that was cool!

Parts of it reminded me of Darth Vader's March.

Very cool track, drums sound great, spending some time to make an interesting track/nice sounding recording does not = laboured in my view :tu:

Particularly love the sort of spooky sounding reggae break down half way through, unexpected and fabulous :sb:

Yeah, there is a vibe of some very simplified version of the characteristic rhythm. :goo:

Well, I'm not getting paid for it so I guess it is a labor of love. ;) But point taken, you are right. I felt that it must be a bit of a messy concoction after working on it for so long. I kind of lost track of it a long time ago. So I meant labored as in difficult to understand or unclear.

Cool! I thought folks would hate that part because of the contrasts but there has been no complaints so far.

The melody is based on this patch, by the way:

I made the patch for this track all that time ago but enjoyed it in all its simplicity so I did a bunch of improvisations that day and my partner recorded one of those improvisations that turned into our most popular video to this date.

Yeah, absolutely love that stripped down patch, can't remember if I commented on it when you posted it before but I have listened to it quite a few times. It has some imperfections and is a bit rough by its very nature, yet also, magical and evocative. It really leaves the listener room to fire up their imagination. Not to diminish the work you have done with it to create crenulated orion, which has it's own merits :)
