I've been spending most of my time on my new noisepop/shoegaze/whatever project, Sandbite (shameless plug: https://sandbite.bandcamp.com), but here's some new drone/ambient for you guys. Hope you enjoy! :cloud:

This is lovely. It sounds like my half-remembered dreams of a better time. I really love those distant, distressed, crackly-decayed sounds. I'm curious, what kinds of synths are you using?

Thank you! For the past year or so, I've used the Dreadbox Erebus for all sounds in my tracks - with some FX, of course. In this one, I used the Keeley Gold Star reverb (in distorted and flanged modes) and Valhalla UberMod (mostly for echoes and dirty reverbs, too). The Erebus itself is really well-suited for this sort of sounds, with its separate glides and stuff. Oh, and its built-in delay is perfect for distressed textures.

Glad you liked it!

All those sounds coming out of the Erebus? Nice! I love going deep into the sonic potential of a single instrument.

Yeah, the Erebus is an amazing synth, really. Maybe not the universally best choice as a single synth, but it works really well for ambient, drone and the like. I might sell it to get an Abyss or a Perfourmer, otherwise I'm happy with it.

I'm a big fan of minimalistic setups myself - now that I think of it, I've never had more than 3 synths/drum machines at the same time. But I'm a former bass player, so I'm kinda used to having just one instrument to control.

E352 Cloud Terrarium being modulated by Pam's New Workout. A lot of fine tuning on the modulation offsets/levels, but I gotta admit that to a certain extent, the E352 made it effortless ;)

I absolutely LOVE this piece! You apply a deft hand at teasing out nuance and subtlty in the tones you are working with. This is exactly how I like my drone, and I'm looking forward to further exploring your Soundcloud page.

Also, I'm curious: what is that enormous module in the top right corner of the case on the left?

Hi, asymptote. Thanks for your kind words!

This module in the top right corner is the Cwejman QMMF-4, it's a wonderful module for filtering, make fantastic feedback, for resonator use, equalizing, ...

Ah, yes. Of course. The Cwejman QMMF-4. I'm sure that is a joy to play around with. I know the RES-4 gets a lot of love. I recently added a Random*Source ResEQ to my rack, and so far I am really impressed with it for the uses you've just mentioned.

Anyway, I'm really liking your work. Thanks for sharing.

For the first time in a couple of years or so, I've recorded a synth-less track. I spontaneously bought a guitar a few days ago, and I'm still learning (or at least trying to remember) the basics; it doesn't prevent me from melodroning with it, though

Thank you for the kind words! In all honesty, I've never listened to his music - I guess it's time to fill that gap.

Grumble wow this machine of yours looks amazing! how much arduino-based is it, are these digital oscillators, or effects, both, neither?
Bosavi such a pity I missed it! <3 (i like all of your drone works -- i've allowed myself to cross-post it to http://muffwiggler.com/forum/viewtopic. ... 0&start=50)

New Years’ drone:

http://soundcloud.com/manresa/anatolia

The first half stars Noise Engineering’s Cursus Iteritas & Loquelic Iteritas, Mannequins’ Mangrove, and a Makenoise STO run through an MMG for light filtering of high frequencies and Erbe-Verb for ambience. In there second half the MMG takes over just on the edge of resonance. Modulation by Quadra and Just Friends with the new slow firmware. The WMD MSCL helped prevent clipping on my A/D converter with some pretty aggressive compression. (My drones tend to have a lot of dynamic range.) Light editing in Ableton.

A new guitar drone track. Lots of Shift Line Termofuzz, sometimes coupled with EQD Acapulco Gold, all going through Valhalla UberMod. Thanks for listening!
