Is Megaohm still in business?

Post by Gman81 » Wed Oct 28, 2020 2:31 pm

Does anyone know if Megaohm is still in business?
I’ve tried to reach out to the email on their website for a few weeks now, to no avail.
I looked around on the forum but I haven’t found anything about it. I wondered if anyone knew here.
Thanks so much! I’ve been looking for a solid MS20 type filter for 5U and everyone talks about theirs!
:)

I have MA20 from Megaohm. Really characterful filter with a musical resonance. Interesting fact - it’s only one module in my system with push-pull pot.

Oh interesting! I had no idea! Thanks!
Looks like I’m going to have to wait for one to come up on the used market! I hear good things about the MOTM 420 as well, but it seems like it would require a bit of reshaping of my case and a power adaptor.

I bet that some engineers here can adapt Motm module to MU (connector and panel). FSFX can be interesting in this work too.

I contacted him ~3 weeks ago regarding some custom work, he initially replied and said he would get back to me in a day or so with a quote.....3 weeks later no replies. Tried again to contact him on Monday, still waiting....

Yes I came across those versions of the MOTM. If I’ll find a 420 I’ll definitely try it. Also wanted to try the analog craftman polivoks as I’ve always loved that design/sound.

And I’m glad I’m not alone in the waiting experience!
Maybe patience will be our friend!

Phil aka MegaOhm made a custom modification for me this summer. He is not always the fastes to reply but he delivers. Be patient.

I have the MA20 which I think I bought from Phils own modular as he was selling some of his stuff.... no idea what a push pull pot does,

I need to spend more time with it, but I really wanted a MS20 filter in my 5U rack.

Good things do take patience!
I’m just happy he still works and that I didn’t catch up to his stuff too late!
If it takes a few months it takes a few months. :)

I also reached out to Phil, casually a few months ago - asking if he had any modules available. He said at the time he was not inventory'ing stuff and was focused on other exciting projects. He is a super nice guy and I quite respect his work.

He did share with me the modification Instructions to better the trigger (Control Input) for Cynthia's Quad Low Pass gate module. If anyone would like this pdf in the future, just shoot me a line.
Seeking the esoteric and funky in 5U/COTK/MOTM and MODCAN B, send me a message if you are selling gear and thanks!

большо́е спаси́бо Mr Guitar!

I think the front panel says minus, but I have always noticed positive modulation, so that likely explains it!

I still exist!

Trying to clear out all long overdue custom jobs.

Don't have any modules for sale - out of panels and pcbs on some.
The only production module I can make is the MA20 because I have the pcbs. Panels I would have custom made to order (re:synth or tardishead or front panel express).

I've been studying and experimenting as much as possible.
I'm trying to have a handful of designs done in the next months so I can start releasing pcbs for SDIY crowd next year.
I don't have anything interesting to share yet, but hopefully soon.

Phil has done quite a few custom jobs for me over the years. These ranged from custom MU modules (a blindly requested switch/attenuator module - he took my words and provided three designs, attenuators, etc.), refitting a dual Plan B MU LPG module into a Euro format, fixing a few things, and rewiring a CB/marine microphone into a small amp into an old drive in theater speaker for total vocal noise experiments.

He has made some amazing Megaohm modules over the years. I own a few of those too.

He has run the gamut for me. Always very fair priced and generally on time unlike a robot. He has the knowledge and the skills.

I have a Delta VCF, LFO Two and 2 CdS'. They are the dead last modules I'd ever part with!

The delta VCF is indeed mighty.. ! if you like the Delta the Dove Audio poly 800 based filter (2069F NOS chip)gives it a run for its money.. its can go little more aggresive than Phils Delta but is quite tonally similar ..Both korgs so no shock there..(last few at dove! ..then they are gone!.. I bought 2 because I regretted not getting 2 deltas! and they are limited stock..)

This thread is more like the "Megaohm Celebrity Roast"!

I have nothing but good things to say about Phil, I have had the MA 20 filter ( I may need to get another, as he can still make them), the LFO 2, and a custom Stompbox Adapter. He also did a bunch of custom work for, like wiring up some smaller pots with mta connectors (I suck with a slobbering iron), which allowed me to put two of the Q109 EGs behind a 1 MU panel (won't work with the Alphas from Dotcom), and make other custom small modules.

The one thing that no one was mentioned is his VCA Rider product, which allowed you to add a VCA function to your Q109 EG. Very simple to install and no soldering required! Are these still available?
For Sale/Trade: 14U 84 hp Euro case . Willing to trade towards MU Modules, Moogerfooger pedals, Minifooger pedals, and other interesting effects boxes that work well with modular, try me!
