some progress: I discovered 3 large wooden drawers I salvaged a few years ago to build into shelves, were almost perfect size for 6x4 rows of 5U

bit of a hack job with the router, but once tolex is on etc they should look ok

now I need to sort out the power supply & distro

That's a nice bit of repurposing there UG! :tu: :yay:

I really like the idea of a separate power supply. I'm considering moving my QPS-2 out of my portable cabinet and into its own box.

Looking forward to seeing your progress! Thanks for sharing.

That's awesome! :yay:

Are you using the MiniBrute as a controller?

And what's the mic going to be used for :hmm:

Thanks, Flareless & Zeta! :guinness:

Yes re the MiniBrute (though you have to quantize it :despair: ). The microphone is actually just sitting out so that I remember to take it to a neighborhood oral history project.

Booooo.

Just kidding. That is really cool (although I like to imagine you put it through a harmonizer or something for historical effect).

SM58?

And nice to see two MU Zero VCO's in there.

So sorry, I´ve lied.

On page 84, I made it clear that the system wouldn´t expand. A few modules might be exchanged, but nothing else. Well, a few weeks ago I couldnt help myself, and started building cabinets five and six. During that time, I also arderred some bread and butter modules.

In my defense, I held on to four cabinets for six years.Image

Thanks, Flareness. Finally getting to a Point where I´m not totally sure what to do with every space. Feels different not to have everything planned, but I´m keeping my options open to see what emerges on the market.

I know what you mean. Once I got the core modules I planned for my modular I started thinking "but what if I add this module with these cool features".

Now I've got only 2 single width spaces left open and I'm already planning my next cabinet.

Today I finally finished a massive studio update: MOTM cabinet with 3x 650s (with a fourth as a backup in storage!), controlled by a Komplete keyboard and Maschine sequencer, Metric Halo for recording and routing, an updated analog mix desk, and retuned room with acoustic panels. Soldered like a million patch bay connections!! Phew, beer time. For the technical details you can check out my Gearslutz post.

Next, I need to stop playing with solder and actually make some freakin' music.

One of my little 5U "overflow" cases, this one in a Synthesizers.com Box 11 for fun. :cloud:
Image

And of course I did some modifications!  I decided to mount the power brick inside the case (it's a third party brick I decided to try):
Image

And added an Analog Craftsman distro board inside:
Image

Plus rubber feet on the back as well as the bottom:
Image

I also decided to turn one of the multiples into two passive attenuators. Had to drill two additional holes for the pots and one for the switch. (purple knobs were temporary for fun) The DPDT toggle switch on the left disconnects the ground wire going to the attenuator pots and also connects input of the first attenuator to the input of the second so it can still be used as a multiple if desired.
Image

I still need to make custom sides for the case and add an AC power entry socket.

After several quick rearrangements and combos of modules I've settled on this arrangement:

I'm going to do everything in my power to resist changing it any more. :tu:

Thanks a lot, bwhittington. Nowadays, there is a krisp1 Double VCA and a TZ VCO too, but I won´t publish a new phot for every addition to the system. As you can see, there will more. This time, for the last to cabinets, I´ll add less butter and bread modules

I have to ask ... what is that keyboard/instrument on the right of the Leslie? I don't believe I've ever seen one of those.
