COTK positive experience

Post by aj55 » Tue Apr 18, 2017 10:05 am

Dear all,

Having had the opportunity to start in 5U with some used modules, I decided to order a C1631 from COTK. I emailed them and got a response from Kazike within 10 minutes! After some more emails - I also wanted a powerboard - I made the final order on the 6th of april.
And it all arrived today - within 2 weeks including Easter - properly wrapped in plenty bubble plastic. I am happy

Cheers Arnold

Yes, COTK is getting much better on responses & shipping.

And we appreciate this!!

Damn, this is good news. I've shared a few very negative COTK experiences I've had, but he makes some truly amazing modules and I'd love nothing more than to place an order, if I could feel confident I'd actually get the order filled. Maybe it's time for one more try...

I think I have made only positive experiences regarding correspondence and had only slight delays in shipping/building stuff as I make them with other small manufacturers too.

Can someone tell me the depth of their modules?
Same depth for all of them?

Thanks!

Not where I can measure, but I have in the past... I have a 904A, 902 and 2x 911 (thanks to Mark11Audio) .

The filter has a cover that goes out about 2.5 inches as I recall and the others are less than that.

Then, plus a little for the power cable... I think I made the determination that these wouldn't work in a box11, if that's what you're after.

They do vary in depth a bit. Of the two I have out of the rack and handy to measure the C1670 was almost exactly 3" from the front panel to the back of the screw head and the C951 is a little deeper.

Thanks guys!

I guess I'm "old school" since my interest for now is about the:

C 1670 Ensemble Generator (thanks John for measurement, I hope it's working again...?)

C 1610 Resonators or the new version C 910

C 1660 Phase Processor (again thanks John, that noise demo with resonators still haunt me... :hail: )

I'm thinking of using mixer cases with a depth of 15 cm/5,91 inches to play with from rack rails.
Maybe a tight fit even with an internal power buss and external PSU...?

Best regards

I still haven't taken the time to try to re-calibrate it again and it has been out of my rack for years now. I'm still undecided if I should sell it as is, getting working well again and sell it, or possibly keep it and use it? :despair: :ripbanana:

Thought I'd chime in on my positive experience.
I emailed, got a reply the same day. Ordered a module and had it a week later in Los Angeles.

To be fair and just as a reality check, I've had anywhere from fairly great to fairly terrible experiences when dealing with COTK so I would approach ordering from them and/or returning something for repair with caution and tempered optimism. :|

For instance I've been trying to order a C951A for 8 months now and while responses to my inquiries come back quickly, the response is always the same, he is too busy. :despair:

As a long time and mostly positive supporter of COTK this leaves me a bit mystified since I see and hear about many people ordering single modules and full systems and getting them quickly. :waah:

I'm left to keep guessing why? I thought maybe he didn't have PCBs or panels and was waiting to get enough orders to do another run but he said he has both, he is just too busy to build one for me.

I'm thinking now that there is maybe a problem with the module or the different versions of the C951? I recently tried to get both my C951 modules working together and the second one I bought (used from a wiggler and it is version 2) doesn't work as well or the same as the first one (original/older version) I bought new from COTK.

Anyways, at this point I'm giving up on getting a C951A and will likely sell the version 2 of the C951. :ripbanana: I hope everyone else continues to have better luck with COTK than me.

What kind of business model it is where you have to beg some manufacturers to take your money? As far as I'm concerned, Kazike makes awesome looking vaporware.

I finally told him that had he fulfilled my order for a 907a I would have spent a lot of money with him. His response: "I'll survive."

Imagine having COTK in stock at Noisebug. He would give Moon & others a run for their money. Missing out on many orders, for sure.

- I think Gert at Moon Modular has folks who help build his units. Maybe Kazike needs to hire help as well?

You have to turn away work when you're too busy. It's far more professional to do this than to take someone's money and keep it forever. Sometimes you have to accept reality, and the reality is that it's not simple to scale production from a one man shop to a business. It's a lot of risk. Just because Moon did it successfully doesn't mean it's easy

In my case, it was for an in-stock module.

So the 800 bucks or so that I would have spent on his 907a turned into 1800 for a Synth-Werk 914.

Mos-Lab and Synth-Werk over COTK anytime.

yep..

..I'm out from COTK.. ..never go there again.
the fact that this thread even exists does say quite a lot.

AFAIK "in stock " just seems to mean he has the parts.. and "one order at a time" means not yours.

congrats to all those that got their stuff.. :)

So bizarre! Guess I had beginner's luck or something.
It was such an easy transaction for me.

One week later was really fast.
Would you mind sharing when this was?

Give or take a couple of days but it was last month. Beginning of the month-ish.

I'm enjoying this post.

I sent an email to cotk for an order and no response, it's been a month.
I don’t understand, I’ve already ordered without problems.

do you have the same problems?
(Beforehand sorry for my bad English)

I ordered a couple of modules around 2 months ago. I've heard nothing from Kazike at all.
My previous experience was positive but not this time.

Yah I've ordered several modules from CoTK and its always been a positive experience. I've gotten some modules quickly, and some have taken a couple months, but always eventually received them. Also he always eventually replied, sometimes immediately, and sometimes after a week or so. I'm a pretty patient person so its never been that much of an issue for me as I know he's busy and is a small operation. In My Opinion his modules are worth the wait and he couldn't be a nicer guy.
