Hi Putte , the maximum cut off frequency is calibrated to be a bit higher than 22 Khz. This way the high harmonics of square and saw waves can pass the filter without been affected. It's true that if you feed the filter with a for example 400 HZ saw wave , from 7 to 10 on the cuttof knob you will almost hear no difference.
The maximum cut off frequency can be lowered a couple of octaves using a trimmer on the back of the module. It's a really easy procedure. Please send me a private message or an email with the model that you have ( C101, C101 MKII or C101B ) and I will explain you how to do it.
was using it this morning.. it does 303 pretty much exactly.. stick an envelope onto the res CV in on the 6db out.. well done pablo :tu:

Nothing to show but:

MOSLAB 904A VCF
OAKLEY CROGLIN VCF
GROVE PM RESONATOR

I am looking at finally adding a Moon 517S. Best option for a single space to add something between what I have.

just as a thought stirrer.. I had 2 of these(517s).. sold them on as I found them too close to the moog ladder.. but less useful.. if you want filters with a diff flavour I would suggest a roland clone (corsynth/oakley(or the new jp6 thing) a 2044 (2144) chip filter (again corsynth or electroworks) or the one of the last few Dove poly800 filters(see above) which is great..

No kick Rex but please let's keep this thread about MU Filters. There's already a thread about modules that should be in MU.

Here is my latest setup since my original post;
IMG_4221.png

Top Row;

Yusynth Minimoog VCF
CGS35 Steiner / Synthacon VCF
PAiA 9340 VCF
BMC034 Switched Resistor VCF
Oakley Journeymen Dual VCF
STG Sea Devils VCF
Yusynth Fixed Filter Bank Pro
CGS202 Serge Resonant Equalizer

Second Row

Yusynth ARP 4072 VCF
Dotcom Q107 State Variable Filter
Thomas White Triple Low Pass Gate
Moogah SEM VCF
CGS49 Dual WASP Filter
Oakley Human Voice Module
Oakley Croglin VCFD
Oakley Discrete Ladder Filter
CGS77 Serge 73 VCF

I've changed it up just a bit swapping out the Fixed Filter Bank for the Pro version and adding some new Oakley and Serge VCFs. I've also added a 1U Oakley Discrete Ladder Filter in my single row portable system (cuz it's my favourite).

my humble offerings -

Grove GMS-294A
STG SeaDevils
STG Post-Lawsuit
Corsynth C101B
SSL Steiner
ac Voks
Dove 2069 VCF + VCA
Oakley Dual Journeyman
Moon 505 Multimode (x2)
Krisp1 Croglin

I keep thinking I should need a dedicated HPF or two, but then I typically either use one of the Moon Multi-mode filters or the Steiner or simply pitch up the oscillator(s) in question.

Up till now, my go-to filter has been the Corsynth C101B. It just sounds great on pretty much everything. The recently-acquired Dove though is a very nice sounding filter as well and may rise to the top of the heap. Although, the dual Journeyman imparts such a great aura over complex sounds and I've been having a lot of fun recently with drum/percussion sounds through the Analog Craftsman Voks filter and really pushing the drive on it. Nice distorted, heavy drum sounds abound. It really does have the same piercing resonance that exists in the original Polivoks synth (I used to own a couple of those), but the drive control and resonance backed off slightly really livens up a patch. Basically the end result is it's hard to let any of them go.

Dotcom FFB
Synthwerk FFB
Synthwerk 904
Oakley Croglin
Oakley Discontinuity
Oakley HVM
Oakley Journeyman
Oakley Deep Equinoxe (Filter?) :hmm:
MOS-LAB 904
SSL Steiner
STG Mankato
STG Sea Devils
Sputnik vcf
Grove Audio PM Resonator
Grove Audio 904A
And various CGS stuff.
Not to mention hardware and software filters...

Actually oldgearguy had the name right, and I didn't: Grove GMS-294A . It is a 904 clone.
My list omitted the SynthTech MOTM lineup, which I also have around.

gotta say.. cant hear a lot between the 904 clones.. less res dropoff or more res dropoff..

Ockeghem is in a better position to judge as he has the main 4 904s !

Thank you for the feedback. The three in my choice column are: Moon 517S, Oakley/Krisp Journeyman/Dotcom Q107A.

I am actually looking for another Moog style VCF in a smaller footprint, but MIGHT be swayed to the Journeyman. The Q107A is just a thought because I had the full sized version and it was so unique, but only ever liked it with mu Modcan digital VCO which is gone.

I have a handful of Euro VCF's for flavor and the Croglin is pretty unique, so am leading toward the 517S for some Moogish action by more range than the Moslab 904A.

So you think the 517S is too close to the 904A to offer some variance even with the Croglin?

Thank you for the insight.

they are not exact at all.. but nor are they miles apart..
croglin is very different..
I would go for a 2144 based filter or a roland myself.. they are great and different..

both in in 5u now...

Speaking of the Grove filter (which i still love BTW) - has anyone heard from John Burdick at Grove recently?
I had ordered a dual VCO from him and it was being finished up in June (burn-in, calibration stage), but haven't heard from him since. Emails were either bouncing back or just no response. He's been a visitor/poster to Muff's but hasn't been on since August 15th or so and PMs here have also been unanswered.

hope things are OK there.

This is a quite old picture of my system and there have been some significant changes since it was taken, but my collection of filters is still mostly intact. You can see them in the middle of the upper 22-space cabinet: Grove PM resonator, MOTM-480 converted to MU by Phil at Megaohm (love this filter), the venerable and oft-used Q150, the Megaohm Delta (I think it's actually sentient), and of the two Q107s I still have but one.

I think filters are like little musical instruments.
