I layered those lines with vocoder lines using the internal synth because it made it sound more cohesive that way - when I did individual lines I played them by hand, but when I did anything with the three voices, I used midi.
Nice explanation. I have the vocoder on the Roland System 8 but I've yet to use it in a finished piece. The VC340 is much more of a dedicated setup in the classic manner for the vocoder. I also like the string parts from the machine.

I really like the VC340. I did a recording that is 100% VC340 using vocoder, strings and choir and love the sound. Maybe not the greatest music :hihi: , but a lot of fun.

Wow! modmax69. That was some bombastic gold there. Great sounds. Love the percussive stuff on the third one.

function testing some new Corsynth modules led to this drone patch - a single C104 being processed in a multitude of ways. it's the only sound source other than a dusting of white noise mixed into the high frequency phaser sweep. there are a lot of great tones in that oscillator!

Yeah, I know, I just posted, but I've been busy¦
Years ago I studied classical composition. I used Garritan Personal Orchestra (GPO) to render my music. This is a sample set with an interface that made creating realistic orchestrations pretty easy. You use the mod wheel for volume/dynamics, velocity for articulation, etc.

Fast forward to today¦

I want to do analog synth versions of some of my "classical period" music. The easiest way to do it would be to take the original Cubase files, remove the VI for GPO so the VI lines are just midi, get them "modular ready", then record one line at a time.

I decided to start "easy".... well, so I thought :hihi: . I had recorded the first movement of Vivaldi's Winter, playing all of the parts in by hand and correcting the midi files a little of major goofs: I wanted to keep the real human feel of the performance, but have it sound good. The GPO version is here (not embedded since not modular):

For the modular, I kept the same system: mod wheel for volume/dynamics and velocity for articulation. The patch was a little more complicated than I thought: I used all 5 VCAs I have and wished for more! (I need another Corsynth C107 8-) ). I used my Mos-Lab 901 bank for some sounds and think they did an excellent job on the bass parts in particular (I found the same with Coventry Carol: the 901s are fantastic on bass parts). The Moon 911C envelope allowed my to easily use velocity to change the shape of the envelope after I inverted the CV so big numbers = short times and small numbers = long times.

One note: the harpsichord is my Kawai K5000 (I may go back and do modular version of this, but...), everything else is the MU modular. Oh, the close up is pretty much the patch I used throughout.

Amazing, it really sounds like a string ensemble. It has soul, you can feel that it's not just a midi file. I love that you can hear every string with different attacks, it makes the music to feel alive. Also the dynamics are really good. Really good job il Prete Rosso would be proud!

Thanks! It was a lot of fun both years ago when I played it all in and now creating the sounds. I did multiple takes for each of the string groups, so they truly are ensembles, which helps make them sound more "real". And the music that "il Prete Rosso" created was so good that it is hard to ruin ;)

I had not made a video in years. Today, I finally recorded a simple techno jam I've been playing with in the past few days.

Thank you! Sometimes I think I should do more techno/acid than experimental stuff.

OK, my turn! As I didn't capture my performance at http://brightonmodularmeet.co.uk/ at the time I decided to recreate it in the studio before I forgot how I patched and played it.

Got the two oscillators 32'/16' being driven by lower 960 (MosLab with switchable gates) going through dotcom ladder filter. Upper 960 is driving 'acid'-ish line through the dotcom SV filter. Percussion is by TR727 which also sends triggers to 960s. Deluge (off-screen) drives 727 via MIDI clock as well as providing basic 909 drums in first main 'track', and more drums and strings pads in second track. Recorded from A&H MixWiz4 (with basic reverb FX) using Roland GO:MIXER (I kept checking levels on this!) and iPhone.

A bit cheesy but was fun to do. Enjoy. Thanks!

Really like it smbenn! Especially part two. Good use of the drum machines and 960’s.

Thanks mate! Always a challenge to do a varied live set with the relatively simple MU setup compared with some Euroracks which practically have a synth per module!
