I'd like to get to know you but I haven't got the time,
You got to walk like a mannequin, roll like a tyre,
Act on reaction dodge the big spud fryer

Much appreciated Mr Preece! I am in Norway right now. It is punishingly expensive.

Just listened to the first track.
Amazing - such subtle and sensitively shaped music.
You have really made the Hordijk sing.
Thank you for this.

A nice morning listening! Thanks. I particularly enjoyed "A Spark Ignites, Cathedrals Tumble".

Hiya! It's been a while! I wish I didn't have to answer this question but I knew it was coming!!

I have played the sh*t out of it, have an album recorded and have used in two bands in the years I have owned it- it is without a doubt great instrument.

My main two struggles have been portability and control - although it is a compact 5U, it is still heavy and hard to get around. I'm generally downsizing in life and want more capability to escape when I need to, having a large and expensive thing could be an issue at some point. It was always a headache practicing and gigging in bands because of moving it around - I don't think it is the right instrument for this use IMO but YMMV!

The problem I have had with control over time is that I like to use it as a standalone instrument and I feel like I have exhausted what I can get out of it compositionally now. In my own music I work with noise and drone as many people do in this thread and the electronic world and I am running in to that classic modular problem of 'if only I had another lfo/vca/vco etc' to make this patch work. The main problem I have had here is that I haven't had cash to spend since I bought the system to expand in this way.

In the bands, I would use a MIDI controller or some cheap keyboard synth with MIDI out as a controller, and would generally have some eleborate patch set up so that I could play several songs without repatching, again it is just the wrong instrument for this - I have tried for some time to find an interface that I gel with but haven't found it after swapping out a couple of the budget controllers on the market. I can't afford some of the more sexy ones, but I generally find digital sequencers with menus and shift/function keys pretty tedious to work with anyway. I mean, Eliané Radigue is my hero.

When I met Rob, he inspired me to work on my own DIY a lot more and since then I have developed my own Benjolin-eske synth called Pixel Turbo. It actually does a lot of the sonic things I love, and is tiny. I want to concentrate on making my own instruments from here. Of course, as I am a flippant mofo I might give an Easel a go if the stars align.

You guys are welcome to convince me I am wrong ;)

Here is a picture of Pixel Turbo:

It started out like this:

Sorry to ask then :guinness:
I am not doing live performance, just home pleasure (please don't :miley: )
I understand your point. I guess unless going computer like with softtube you will always miss something.
I miss some controls on the Hordijk, some other capabilities but I am sure Rob will develop stuff in the future that will feel the missing.

Good luck for the sale and for your projects. :nana:

Ginko: Not to be flippant or sarcastic, but don't even dream that an Easel will get you close to the flexibility of your Hordijk system, nor give the Eliane Radigue acolyte any degree of satisfaction. Just an opinion, but one arrived at the hard way.

Weirdly enough I got to work in my school in Berlin last week and Aiden’s Hordijk system just happened to be sitting right there on the floor; some kind of Russian Mafia connection I believe? I might have misunderstood...

Are those a couple of custom Blippoo mounted in that Hordijk case?

A new triple panel, more precisely the middle module.
The DualFader is now a single Fader that let you choose between linear and RMS curve (top switch) and the ability to still use it as a ringmodulator (bottom switch) via some internal normalization. It has a position knob and a mod knob. Still 5 jacks.
Below is Rob's new envelope follower. I wanted it so bad. A gain knob and a threshold knob. You have an input, an output and a gate output. The preamp output is normalized to the Shaper and the Phaser so in dry mode you can get the sound untraited.
On the right, a redesigned Shaper. Bipolar VCA is out for this design.

Can't wait to have mine.

I hate to seem overenthusiastic but as far as I can tell it is the greatest analogue envelope detector ever made (actually a change detector so technically in the same category as Ken Stone’s Slope Detector only specifically focussed on audio transients). It is very musical and a few times we noted it seemed to have a mind of its own and always in very musical way.

The waveshaper is recognizably related to the old but much smoother and I agree with Rob that it fits the aesthetic of his system better

Your Instagram videos already show the great potential of this new module.

Rob told me that the waveshaper sounds more like the one in the Blender than the normal Shaper.
