I want a Plague Oscillator

Post by CursedFrogurt » Wed Aug 11, 2010 1:22 pm

Something semi-stable, doesn't have to track for shit. I just love how the PB sounds patched into itself, just want something with bigger sweet spots that doesn't go into the rhythmic clickings if you push it a millimeter outside of it's sweet spot. I love that the PB does that, and I wouldn't want to give it up in my PB, but something geared towards oscillation would be nice. I still want to have to fight it, just not quite as hard. Kind of like having a bad day as a special ed teacher, but not quite as far as working as an orderly in an asylum for the criminally insane. An oscillator that will throw a tantrum and chuck a can of split pea soup at me, but without the risk of it tearing my face off and wearing it around as a loincloth. Just an idle thought.

Okay, here's something I've often pondered:
The Plague Bearer circuit has a lot more to it than is normally seen - they are mostly subtleties but, as PB owners have seen, subtle changes make huge differences. The PB is damn near made of sweet spots, it's just tricky as hell to get to them. Even further, some minor component value changes completely alter the behavior of the whole thing. I settled on a "best of" setup with minimal panel controls in the interests of keeping the price down so as many people as possible could have one.

So, to my question - how many people would be interested in a balls-out, ultra-configurable, super-FSU Plague Bearer with all the trimmings?

This would include input & CV attenuators, variable buffer gain, a noise switch to make it a proper noise generator, greatly increased self-osc aspects, and a number of other goodies.

This would also mean 10-12hp, plenty of knobs, switches, and jacks, and a substantial difference in price. If I'm gonna do it, it's gonna be done right.

I'd be up for one. :hyper:

Would you offer it as a kit like the current Plauge Bearer?

Well alrighty then, I'll get to work on this when I can!

Yup. All f(h) modules will have a Barebones Pack version unless somehow impossible (doubtful).

Even more interested if there will be a "stand alone" version.

LOL, I do! This is the fastest batch of responses I've ever had.

I would love to DIY one into a desktop format.
Can you give the details on the mods or will it be a new PCB?

Completely new PCB. I'm going to work in some of the new circuit tricks I've been figuring out. :flamey:
