Another case of the blues

Post by DickMarker » Sat Feb 29, 2020 3:34 pm

Apologies for spamming the BB forum with more self-promotion but thought some folks might like this.

Another new cassette/digital release - solo work this time - on Hominid Sounds. This one is 100% Bugbrand and Scrotum Labs, apart from the field recordings/samples (although most of those were played through Robert's Radio Music module); most pieces built on a series of improvised sessions on my two frames, and then embellished with overdubs and processing.
Hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed making!

I wish all spams were like this one!

I dived (dove?) into your release with such a GREAT pleasure. Really speaks to me.
So cool that such music can be made with a modular like the BugBrand system :sb:
I'm of course also more than happy that some of my modules*** participate to make this awesome atmosphere.

Goose bumps on track 5 :hail:

Vraiment excellent. J'adore!

EDIT: ***modules which were made possible because the original projects they are adapted from are open source, thanks to their creators like Emilie Gillet, Jim Matheson and Tom Whitwell.

Excellent work Mark! Really impressive sounds - is there a lot of post production going on? Reverb/compression etc, seems very professional for want of a better word! Unlike any Bugbrand music I've heard too

Thanks guys.

Robert - the Radio Music module is proving invaluable, especially with the pitch function, alongside Tom's devices - thanks for adapting it to Frac/BB!

Ritchie - some of the tracks involved a fair bit of post production but then I usually end up stripping a lot back before the final mix; I use TAL Reverb 4, which is a great sounding plate, for the reverb. I try to avoid compression (unless really needed) until the "mastering" phase, using a few Klanghelm plugins and the amazing Sonic Anomaly Unlimited.

Cheers Tom - I'm not a big subscriber to the idea of gear being an important factor in creativity but your instruments have certainly had a big impact on my output!

I did a no hesitation, knobs to 11 isolation inspired noise recording session and put it up on my Bandcamp - not pretty but then neither are these times! Once again, all Bugbrand and SL. Hope you're all faring well.

Happy new lockdown!

Got another release out into the wild - once again almost exclusively done on Tom's fab gear (with a little (more than a little) help from Robert). Worth noting I used the Chirper a lot one this, but not so much as a wild noisy fun generator as the source for most of the bass duties on this record, using its filter as a rudimentary VCA to get it pulsing along with other bits.
This one's pretty heavy - no doubt the result of spending most of this year isolated in a lump of concrete but feel surprisingly lightened to have got it out.
Hope you get some enjoyment from it.
Mark

Shit sorry - I have twenty available on my Bandcamp, due late November as the label guy is waiting to get them produced - I could put one aside for you when they arrive, no extra charge except postage?

Cool!
I still did not listen to Metropolith as I was in compiling some tracks myself, but for sure will soon.
