DRM1 AND DRM2??

Post by Steelshank » Fri Jun 05, 2020 6:54 am

Is it worth getting a DRM1 if you've already got the DRM2? I'm sure that it probably is, but would like to hear from Wiggler that own both. Thanks in advance!

Yes definitely worth getting a DRM1! Maybe Tom has a few expanderen left also, if so a DRM1X is even more fun😊
But yeah, they are quite different (snd they sound different)👍🏻 Question remains, however, if someone is willing to sell you one😜

It really depends what kind of system you have and what kind of sounds you wish to create. For instance someone with a large modular system may not need DRMs but if making percussive sounds is your interest it may be worth having both.
If you find a DRM 1 at a fair price try it as you'll have no problem selling if you don't like. I've owned both and would say that 1 has a more punchy rougher kind of sound, 2 is more in line with the newer synth voice sound - more flexible and liquidy than 1 and more of a subtractive synthesis voice.
DRM 1 expanded is slightly more modular with more patch points. I love my DRM 1 X

Both is valid as they sound different, plus they are so much more than drum modules.
I'm looking for nothing at this moment in time

wait... but there are no extra DRM1's sitting around are there, Tom??? I have been hoping to find one to buy as well + expander, but an expander without the DRM is... well.... a lost soul I assume...

Well i guess i need to keep my drm1x then. Hmm

I see no reason why the drm1 and drm2 can not be available in the bug shop at the same time. Tom??

I retired the DRM1 a long time ago.
Last year I made a short run of DRM1X just ..because.. & still have a couple left, ready built.

Thanks for all of the replies! I figured the 1 & 2 were different enough to warrant having them both.

I discovered BugBrand rather late, and I’m relatively new to modular as well. I first became aware of the DRM1 from a demonstration video Elektron did for a Rytm upgrade that featured the Impulse machine triggering the DRM1. I was intrigued but DRM1s were already hen’s teeth at that point.

I was thrilled when the DRM2 came out and finally got one last year (or was it the year before, time just keeps slippin’). It is such a great instrument - if I could afford it I’d buy several and make a drum set out of them. Until I become filthy rich, I’ll have to settle for sampling it or tricky modulation.

Very interested in a DRM1 if anyone needs to unload some gear. :D :D There was one on Reverb awhile ago, for about 3 seconds and I missed it.

northerntao - I am similar - came to it late, and love the DRM2 but of course always keeping a keen eye out for a DRM1... even put up a WTB ad ... but mostly as a joke.. you know, just for fun. All the demos I have seen/heard of them both seem to just reinforce what everyone else has said - different beasts. One more rare to find in the wild than the other though.
